Wax undercoating

New guy here! About 6 months ago I traded my 05 F-150 in on a 2013 Silverado. I noticed while changing the oil there was a lot of the wax undercoating coming off. I guess this is somewhat of a common issue with GM trucks. Anyway I'm still under the bumper to bumper warranty so I stopped in at the local dealer to discuss what could be done. The service manager flat said that he wouldn't touch it his shop but would send it off to an aftermarket company. He was going to talk to the regional rep and get back to me.

There's a reputable shop locally that does linex, Rust Check, and undercoatings. So went to talk to them to see what they recommend. They recommended that I just start have the truck Rust Check every year because I'm still within 3 years of new and Rust Check provides a warranty as long as it's started within 3 years of vehicle purchase date. He said not to even have GM fix the wax coating first as it will just fall off again. His second option was to do a hard coat undercoating but he said he could warranty this because the truck needed to be no more than 2 years old.

So what does everyone here think:

1. finder a dealer to fix the wax coating

2. leave the coating as is and have it rust checked every year...$200/year

3. Take my chance with hard coating. Worried this won't stop the rust that has already started

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

The GM wax coating is crap but apparently they will fix it. You might try another dealer for GM's fix. GM will void their warranty if you put any other rust protection on.

Deal with it now though. My 2001 had a 10 year no perf warranty. 10 years and 2 months and it blew out like a teenager with zits. My frame is toast. 2001 and wax coating, It all peeled off. GM figures their coating is hot shit and there is no corrosion allowance. My 68 chev half ton is now a trailer. It's frame has more metal left than my 2001.

Says something when your truck is 12 years newer than mine and they are still using the same crap that doesn't work and still trying to bamboozle everyone. You are right it is a huge issue.

A lot of people have got them to repair the coating on here. Wait and see what they recommend. Don't go to a rust coat yet, GM will walk.
