Have a 2016 Sierra thats about three months old. I have read the manual but have not found anything about how the nav. is updated. On my 2009 Avalanche the screen pivoted down and that gave you access to a slot for the disc. Any advice appreciated!!

USB drive.

According to them if you have a 2016 you have the latest maps, its not like Garmin where they have several updates a year..

This. And unfortunately GM wants to rape you $200 every time an update comes out (roughly every year).

Since yours is a 2016 make sure you get the Android Auto / Apple Carplay update applied (it is free at the dealership). At least then if you have Google Maps (or just about any other map app) you can use that on your phone and it will display on your Nav screen. No need to buy updates then ...

I don't know about Andriod Auto, but Carplay only lets you use the Apple Map application. Cannot use any other map application you may have on your phone. It doesn't show up. Only Apple Maps.

Auto Android uses Google maps.

Can someone give me more info on the nav to phone? I have Nav in my truck but i don't pay the crazy amount for Onstar as we all have phones. I didn't realize you could sync your phone map to show up on your screen in the truck. Is this correct or did i read this wrong?

If you have a 2016 you can use Android Auto or Carplay (apple) and see Google maps or apple maps on the screen. If you have a '14 or '15 its not available unless you upgrade some parts through people who specialize in OEM radio upgrades.

I have had my 2016 Sierra for one month. Had dealer add Android Auto the other day but I really had no luck getting the apps on my phone to show up on the screen in the dash. Not even Pandora. So I turned it off on the vehicle settings and am using the normal GM interface with Bluetooth. I know I need the data cable plugged into USB. I doubt it matters which USB? I really can't find any support or information for newbies to figure it out?

I also put my music on a USB with three directories for genre.

The USB plays but it does not seem like I can choose a directory to play from?

Anyone got some of this figured out?

Thanks.

I have a '16 Silverado and an iPhone. But I think the whole process is similar across brands.

I have buckets and a console so I just use one of the console USB's and it activates the Apple Car Play icon in the projection icon. I am not sure but I think trucks LT & LTZ's with the bench seat there is a UBS in the glove box. This is the USB that you would use for Android Play and or Your USB.

In regards to your USB folders. When you are on the USB screen there should be a browse button on the screen. If you push that you should be able to sort and play by Artist, Album,Genre etc. You should also be able browse to the different folders on your USB. Of course you need to have your music tagged correctly to do these things. If not and you do have your genres in separate folders you still should be able to browse by folder and play the particular folder you want.

I tried to find a video on YouTube but no one has done one for 2016 GMC Trucks. If you check out page 24 of the GMC Intellilink Users Guide it explains the USB function and how the menus work.
