20's on a 1988 Chevy...

I have a 1988 Chevy 1500 on 235/75/15 tires. I'm taking my rims on 245/35/20's off my mustang and replacing them with stock rims and tires. The wheels on my truck are rusted (and ugly). My 20's have the same lug pattern to fit on my truck but I want thicker tires. How thick of tires can I put on the 20's and Still fit on my truck (still turn and all). If it helps, I plan on lifting the truck and adding wheel spacers as well regardless so would I have to have a certain size lift and spacer? The tires I had in mind were 275/55/20 but I might go smaller/bigger.

Most tire shops will mount a few sized to check clearance for free if you intend to buy.

if its like my 90 you can run a 31'' tall tire I ride 22'' w/31x10 it only scrubs the sway bar in parking lot hard hard turn or if you hit a speed bump to hard it will just tuck the top inside fender
