J3ttydeke Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 (edited) I drive a 2014 Silverado LT1 with the bench seat. When I hit rough roads the center console rattles and after about 6 months its driving me insane. I tightened the screw that fastens the back rest portion of the console to the bottom seat portion but it has not cured any of the issue. Also when resting my arm on the console it still has the metallic rattling sound. When i lift the console up to a 45 degree angle the sound stops. Has anyone else had this issue? Cooldaddygroove Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Same issue with my 2015 Regular cab. Drives me nuts whenever I go over a rippled road. Quote
GMCustomerService Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Hello J3ttydeke and Cooldaddygroove, I am sorry to hear you are both experiencing a rattling in your center console. While I realize you both are looking to other forum members for feedback on this concern, I would be more than happy to connect either of you with a dealership if you wish to get this diagnosed. Please send me a private message with more details if this interest you. Best, Julianne M. GM Customer Care I drive a 2014 Silverado LT1 with the bench seat. Did you ever fix this? I have the exact same issue as both of you in my 2017 z71 double cab with leather bench seat. When the console is raised to 45 degree angle all rattles stop!! Driving me insane. Truck 7 months old. Edited June 16, 2018 by Camaro33 Quote
Camaro33 Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 (edited) I fixed it last night. The culprit was loose change (pennies, etc) which had fallen through the crevices in the compartment and made its way deep within the console/jump seat. It was rattling against metal structure. The symptom I had was a constant rattle of the jump seat/console. With the truck stopped, turned off, and in a quiet area, if you lightly punch or jolt the console from the driver or passenger seat sideways and hear a metallic-like rattle, it is likely change that got trapped so keep reading. I used the first 1 minute (no further) of the video below as a guide for taking the console apart. Disregard the first step of removing from truck, just start at the cup holder part taking out the insert. All disassembly took no more than five minutes and a Phillips screwdriver. I’m convinced if you or anyone else has the exact same sounding issue, then this is likely the solution. In my case, the loose change was against the hinge part in the back of the console (the two large hinges shown at the 1 minute mark but deep within the unit). I put in some felt material against the hinges so this won’t happen again. Sadly this unit isn’t the best design since change can easily fall from the compartment to deep in the console if you ever lift it up and use as a seat with change and small stuff inside. Hope this helps everyone. I’ve confirmed no more rattles at all! Video of disassembly (only first minute needed as a guide): Edited June 17, 2018 by Camaro33 Quote
WHITESSTOWPIG Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 These cars have a few annoying rattles that I have remedied but the jump center console one is probably the most consistent and annoying one.The main cause is the little plastic divider flap in there that dances around while you drive and the lack of felt lining inside which allows anything you put in there to rattle against plastic. If you line everything with double sided felt tape and either wedge some around the plastic divider or remove it all together it will not rattle anymore. COshooter Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 I have the same rattle on my (new to me) 2015, just hadn't annoyed me enough until this last weekend to try and find the culprit! Thanks for the video, I'm going to tear into mine tonight and see what's fallen into the console to cause the rattle. I've taken everything out of the console (including the plastic divider) and the rattle is still there so there's got to be something inside causing it. I'll post if it's anything interesting lol... 6TEEN5.3 Posted June 1, 2020 Posted June 1, 2020 My 2017 started doing the same thing and it was driving me crazy. At 52,000 miles I thought it was just getting old. Took the console apart and found coins in there. Thanks for posting! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
