Thinking of trading F150 for Silverado

Recommended Posts

My husband and I currently have a 15 F150 and thinking of trading a 16 Silverado - it would be a double cab, 2WD, its the Tungsten Metallic 5.3, and says it is the all star edition. Not sure what that gets you.

Our F150 is a 4WD supercab XLT 3.5 Eco boost. Can anyone mention the pros and cons of the Silverado to F150?

My husband is passing the truck on to me, so will be female driven, that's why I kind of wanted 2WD so its just a little lower down, and I really like the look of the Silverado better - haha.

I have a 16 All Star 4WD. I didnt go with ford because I'm not sold on aluminum bodies yet, and I'd like to have a v8 if I'm paying $35-40k for a truck. And it is surprisingly really good on fuel. And IMO Chevy gives you more bang for your buck as far as features go. I've seen a number of Fords that run you $45k that have no options in them.

I traded my 2015 F150 Lariat FX4 with the 3.5L Ecoboost 3'weeks ago for a 2016 Silverado and have zero regrets. Granted the 5.3 doesn't have the hp and torque that the Ecoboost has but still has plenty of power. I love the Silverado. It drives, rides and everything on the truck actually works. If you can get the 4X4 then do it. Never know when you might need it and will also help resale value.

I would still get the 4x4 if that's what you want because from what I can tell the 2wds and 4x4s are the same height in these '14+ trucks. The previous gens you could usually tell immediately if it's 2wd or 4x4 without looking at the interior or looking for the front diff. These K2s you can't tell. So if the only reason you'd want a 2wd is just so it will be lower then get the 4x4 since it's no difference from what I can tell. The front end on these trucks are too low in my opinion, especially if it's a 4x4.

well we are going for the 2wd bc its a lot less and fits our budget better

Either way you go I think you will be happier in the Chevy.

I understand the cost factor. I would recommend waiting a month and getting the 4WD. You'll have it when you need it, and better resale.

I bought my 2015 Z71 LT in early July 2015 and the manufacturer was offering a lot in incentives. I got about $8k off the $45k MSRP.

And bear in mind that dealers are often more willing to negotiate on Double Cabs than Crew Cabs, especially closer to the end of the year, as they don't sell as many Double Cabs. I made them throw in the Linex bedliner and all-around tinted windows.

Well other issue we are on a crunch to get it done and get out of the F150 - long story. We are upside down in the F150 and this one eats up negative. We are saving about 7000 in it. Is it so bad having a 2WD we have had several other 2WD trucks and never had an issue. We live in Southern VA where we might get 1 snow a year and I never leave pavement. I will be the primary driver. I dont know? I would like a 4WD just because like someone else said you never know, but in this situation we will probably keep this truck 5-7 years.

Does the Silverado have more interior space than an F150? What are the added features of an all star edition? The dealer is also willing to switch emblems to black and do a spray in liner in the deal as well.

I live in northern NC off of I-95 and ya we don't get much snow, but I like having 4x4 for when we do have a good enough snow where you'd want 4x4. I don't go mudding or anything like that with my '14, but only needing 4x4 even once per year is enough for me to think it's worth it. That's just be though. Like others, 4x4 is that type of thing where I'd rather have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. I do understand that there's some areas in the country where 4x4 isn't needed at all unless you go off-road, but in my area we do seem to get at least 1 decent snow that's enough where you'd want or even need 4x4 when driving a truck. To be honest, I'd prefer 4x4 over the added features that all-star adds if I had to pick which one to get because of money. This past winter my mom was in the hospital for heart bypass surgery and it happen to snow about halfway through the recovery and let's just say I'm very glad I have 4x4 when I was on I-95. Mine has the all-star, but I'm just saying if I had to pick between 4x4 or all-star I would pick 4x4.

I used to work at a dealer that had all of the domestics except GMC and Buick. Ford seemed to have the worst interior out of the Big 3. Not to say it was bad, it just wasn't as good as GM or Ram. I also noticed that you have to get an upper trim in a Ford just to get some features that are available on a lower or mid trim GM or Ram. I'm also not a big fan of the Ecoboost. I have nothing against it really, I just don't like how hard Ford is pushing it. There's a lot of people that aren't happy with the Ecoboost rather it's the 2.7 or 3.5.

Not sure on the supercab but I know on the crew cabs the Fords have more space. I do love the flat floor of the F150 but not enough to go back to it:). I think the Chevy double cab is going to be very close to supercab in size. If anything the Chevy will be a little smaller but not much. I'm sure the double cab guys will chime in.

We all know how I feel about Ford and Ecoboost! Don't do it!

Look, I have to drive for work where there are no roads in the WESTERN USA! I absolutely need 4x4......You absolutely do NOT!

I am telling you the truth and 95% percent of the people on these fourms will never use a truck for intended 4X4 purpose. They will tell you they need but they DON"T

I might use 4 HIGH 5-6-7 times a YEAR! AND if I am in 4 LOW it's not working for any of us as the TRACK HOE is pulling all of us out and nobody is working anyway which is 1-2 times a year!

Look, that is coming from somebody working on a 30% incline on side of mountain in Wyoming! You need great tires all the time and using 4x4 for normal Joe with great tires will never need that crap.....who cares about resale save the money and the transfer case repairs WHICH WILL HAPPEN and the related fluid and maintenance of 4X4

Your not ROCK CRAWILING IN a 55,000 dollar 145" wheel spread truck OK GET OVER IT PEOPLE YOU DON"T AND WILL NOT EVER NEED 4x4 99% of time.

Agree with the above. 95% do not need 4wd. So if 2wd fits the ops budget better, by all means get that.
