Transfer Case/4WD Issues

Has anyone had an issue w/ their truck's 4WD being inoperative due to electronic issues?

The TCCM went south last year (replaced) & last week I lost 4WD again due to some electronics issue. The TCCM checks out OK, but they think there is an issue w/ the VSS in the transfer case. As a result I get the following messages:

Service Four Wheel Drive

Service Stabilitrak

Service Sway Control

(the same messages last year)

The techs want to split the case to see if the sending ring & sensor are damaged. Apparently this isn't visible by removing the sending unit.

I wonder who thought it was smart to tie the 4WD operation into 2 unrelated systems? Selecting 4WD & 2WD should be independent of any other circuits.

Oh for the days of a floor mounted shifter.

The 4wd is connected to the stabilitrak and sway control because engaging 4wd disengages both of those.

I'm not sure what transfer case would be in your 2011, but to see the sensor and tone wheel in the np263hd in my '02 would be a piece of cake. Remove the sensor, jack the rear up off the ground and get an inspection cam and spin the drive shaft with the probe in the sensor hole and Viola you can check out the tone wheel.
