Can this be patched?

Pull the nail, see if it leaks. If it does leak you could patch it, but like others have stated sidewall patches don't always hold, so keep an eye on your tire pressures. If it starts leaking you are going to have to replace it.

 

A patch coming off a small nail hole is not going to cause an immediate catastrophic blow out, lots of doom and gloom on the internet...

They are correct and Safety reasons are at play here. If you or someone you know family and friends are in the vehicle and hurt because the tire malfunctions. You would wished you and fixed it.

Side wall patching/plugging is not recommended for tire repairs, was thinking maybe a tube, however for safety sake, ya a new tire. I usually go to this small tire repair guy, he sells me a used tire installed and balanced 25 bucks. Done.

Replace it. Its not worth repairing that area at all. Every dealership, tire shop, etc. has been following the Rubber Manufacturer's Association guidelines: https://rma.org/tire-safety/tire-repair/

 

Its not to "make a buck" as it is more out of you and your family's personal safety.

I was at the dealership for a oil change this morning and they found a nail in my tire. They told me that it can't be patched. They wanted me to buy a new tire, I'm wondering if they just wanted to make a buck. Can this be patched or plugged in that location?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1466889487.699932.jpg

 

I just had a similar thing with my Corvette. 2500 miles on it and the silver thing I saw on my tire was a 1/4" x 3" SS bolt buried to the head. It was on the edge of the tread, but on the inside it was in the radius to the sidewall. Had to go with a new tire.
