Bank 1 Catalytic converter

I have a 2006 Tahoe with 200K+ miles on it. Its been a beast, and I love it. I recently had the check engine light on, took it to the dealership and they told me a couple things. The CC was clogged and needed replaced ($2200) and some sensor was bad. I had them replace the sensor, and change the oil, but the service guys said that it wasn't work it to do the $2200 for the new CC factory OEM with that many miles, and suggested I take it to a muffler shop and have them weld a new one on. I said great, took the car to a local muffler shop, and had the Bank 1 (per the error codes) CC taken off and replaced. I asked the muffler shop to reset the check engine light, and everything was good. Picked it up, drive 20 minutes home, and no light, hurray!

Today the light is back on. My assumption is its still the CC and that some sensor isn't understanding the new CC, or that the new CC doesn't jive with the sensor. I can take it to the dealer to get the light tested, but thought you guys might have some good ideas as to why the check engine light came back on and what I can do about it.

I don't, I can make a call and find out, I don't remember off the top of my head. I swear, everytime I take it in, there is some $500 dollar sensor that went out.

What I'm wondering is if they replaced one of the oxygen sensors, but didn't replace the correct one.

The sensors on the exhaust should be $60 a piece. I wouldn't want to run mismatched cats.

What code was it throwing previously, and what code is it throwing now?

I'll run it up to the shop in the morning to see, I don't have anyway to know.

Honestly, I just want the check engine light off, and the car in decent shape so I can sell the truck.

$2200 for a catalytic converter :omg: !!!! Wow, glad you didn't let them do the work. As far as what your issue is, as hammerhead611 said, we would need to know what codes that the truck is throwing in order to point in the right direction. Any number of sensors that deal with the air fuel ratio or exhaust could cause the engine to run lean or rich which can cause the OBDII system to throw codes. Chances are the other catalytic converter needs to be replaced along with all the O2 sensors (should only be 4 total on that model I believe).
