Airbag Question

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have the RC 2.5 kit with the rear block and I have been considering adding Firestone airbags, as I have had them in the past and like the added capacity and safety. My question is will the standard kit work or would I need some sort of a spacer due to the 3/4" taller rear block. I think the answer is no but was curious if others have considered this. Thanks, Luke.

You ever get any info on this? I have 1 inch taller blocks on my 2016 Silverado and i'm interested in Firestone bags as well.

The shop that installed my blocks and level just told me the 1 inch difference would not be an issue for me. Taller blocks could be an issue depending on height.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong but adding airbags does not increase your capacity or load rating. I mean I cannot see how, that would be like me standing on an airbag that is on a scale and expecting to weigh less. I would still weigh the same + now the airbag itself.

I just had this done to my truck, I had the 3.5" lift with the 2" rear blocks. I had them install the airlift loadlifter 5000 kit to my rear as well. The dealership called airlift to ask about spacers and it was confirmed that I needed them. They were only like $45 extra. Here is the result.

You are correct. The only advantage to airbags is comfort when carrying heavy loads.

When you say 2" rear blocks are you referring to the total height or 2" above stock. I'm not sure exactly how tall the stock block is but mine are 1" above that and my shop said I would not need anything in addition to the bags.

I believe the 3.5" kit that I have replaces the 1" stock blocks with a 3" block, so it is 2" above stock. Sorry, I had to google the kit I have. I thought it just replaced the stock 1" with a 2" block.

I would say your shop is most likely correct. But, it wouldn't hurt to give Firestone customer service a call to confirm.

Good luck, the airbags are really a must for these trucks if you put on any kind of load or towing. These things sag horribly,
