Anyone know exactly what comes from the factory? 16 5.3l, when it goes in for oil change does the dealer use what they want? Or a certain brand?

Dealer can use whatever brand they wish as long as it meets the Dexos certification. dealers often buy their oil from bulk suppliers after putting purchases out for bids

I belive its a AC Delco semi synthetic. 0/20 weight . You can Opt for a full synthetic on your first oil change if you pick up the extra cost of the oil. That's what I opted to do. My dealer uses Mobil 1 full synthetic as a replacement.

Factory fill is AC Delco Dex05 0w20 Synthetic Blend. If your GM dealer gets it on the GM program, its Dexos 1 that they oil change with. By the end of the year however, all GM factory fill and dealers on the GM oil program will go Full Synthetic for both 5w30 and 0w20. This is the Dexos 1 2nd Generation program. GM is going to the GF-6 spec two years ahead of schedule. The Dexos 5w30 Full Synthetic has already started to arrive in bulk to dealers.

I've had one oil change (first free of two, synth blend) and am soon to be heading toward my second. I've used full synthetic in all my vehicles and will begin to do so with my next change. What is the typical price delta y'all are seeing for the dealership full synthetic change?

$25 - $35 more for full synthetic.

 

Some dealerships will let you bring your own oil and filter, just charging the labor. I brought my own for a while. Netted out to about the same since I would go with a higher quality oil and filter. Now I just give the oil, filter, and keys to my son

With the quality of modern oils you can't really go wrong with anything on the list. I'm actually using NAPA synthetic in my current truck. From all indications I can find, it is rebranded Valvoline SynPower, and at $2.99 qt this month at NAPA it's a hard bargain to beat.
