Gas Pump Shutting Off

Hey folks, I did a quick search and didn't find anything, so hopefully this isn't a repost.

 

My girlfriend and I have had our '16 1500 for about a month now and it seems like any time we put gas in it, the pump shuts off constantly. We live in California so we have those stupid accordion nozzle covers to meet with CARB or EPA regulations, but I was wondering if this might be a problem with the truck.

 

I actually had a similar problem with my '05 Mustang when I bought it in 2005. There was ultimately a TSB issued related to a venting issue with the fill tube on the gas tank if I remember correctly. Is it possible that these trucks have a similar issue/

 

Any info would be much appreciated, but if it keeps up, I'll most likely just take it in to the dealer to have them look it over.

Was at the dealership last week for another issue and took a service manager for a fill up to show them the issue (they couldn't reproduce on their own). They were able to find a bulletin indicating a new tank is needed. An issue with an anti-siphon valve in the tank. Waiting for a call to say they have the new tank.

Normally when I fill up I pull the nozzle out just a bit to help the venting. I know on hot days is when it does it the worst. Sometimes depends on the sensitivity of the nozzle

Not had problem with truck but motor home and boat do it bad. Sometimes either the pulling nozzle slightly out, as already mentioned, or rotating nozzle handle slightly helps.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try adjusting the position of the nozzle next time I fill up. If it keeps doing it, I'll take the truck in.

Happens to me all the time too, I have to pull the nozzle almost all the way out to fill up. Was annoying at first but have gotten pretty used to it now.

My 2014 did this too. I also just pulled the handle out a bit to get around it. It was really annoying. I'm thankful that my current truck doesn't do this.

I had this issue with my 15 and regardless of how I positioned the handle, it would continue to shut off on me. In the rubber filler neck, there is a kind of screen (plastic insert with a few small bars I assume to block larger debris) that on my original fill tube looked to be manufactured incorrectly. The bars looked swollen which wasn't allowing the fuel to flow nearly as well. Swapped out the tube under warranty and I haven't had a single issue since.
