2016 Silverado Running board LED lights / perimeter lighting?

Wanted to tie in some 60 inch LED strips and mount them over my running boards (under the trucks cab).

I'm looking into tying right into the reverse lights circuit so when I unlock my truck, (and when my perimeter lighting comes on) the running board lights will come on with the reverse lights.

 

Also i think it would help at night or in low lighting situations while backing out of a spot to have the LED's light up the surrounding area around the truck.

Has anyone tied there running board lights into the reverse lights? Any DIY's?

Is there a way to tap right into the reverse lights in the cab, or will i have to run a wire to the back of my tail lights?

That sounds way more complicated then it needs to be. Others have just tapped into the dome light wiring in the cab. Less wiring to run and everything is right there for you to do. The dome light comes on when you unlock the truck from the fob too. I think that's why others have chosen that route

I have mine run to the dome lights, like stated, it is easier and will come on just the same. Will also fade in and out like the dome lights do so it makes it more aesthetically pleasing IMO.

 

If you want you could even tap them into the cargo lights, and just run a diode or wire between your reverse lights and cargo lights. (will get a link for that thread for you). That way, if you go into reverse, the cargo lights (and the strips) will come on as well and give you even more light. Just the same, they'll come on at night when you use the cargo lights via the dash switch, giving you extra light when loading the truck.

 

Just a PS. If you want a few ideas for light mods, I have several on my build thread that many have told me they've done and love

^ Sweet thanks man, yeah this is all new to me, just got my truck and looking for mods that i can use daily and will help me use my truck for what it is...A TRUCK.

I plan off road camping and hunting trips and need some lighting for low visibility situations.
