Question about front bench seats

I have a 15 Sierra crew cab with a front bench seat. The seat originally when fully upright required you to tip it firwards, then back again to allow it to be lowered (felt like some sort of internal latch system). It has in the year that I've owned it, gotten stuck in the upright position 2x requiring dealer intervention. Those most recent time, the dealer replaced the hinge. Since the, the seat, when fully upright, can just be pushed forwards all the way down. Dealer says this is how's it's supposed to be. (No retention/latch at all). Can anyone with a front bench tell me how theirs works? Before I take an hour to drive to the next closest service center, id like to know!

Thought about it, the dealer i have been going to is a Chevy dealer and the truck is a GMC. The service manager insists that the parts are different between the GMC and Chevy. (honestly don't believe him for a second) The nearest GMC dealer is gonna take at least 2 hours out of my day to go to.

Both my old 2015 silverado and 2016 sierra the jump seat just folds up and down with no extra steps. There may be an inertia mechanism that prevents it moving forward in a collision and that may have been broken on yours to begin with.

Just flips up and down with ease. No latch. Use it lots. Your service manager is high af if he thinks chevy and gm are different considering you can get exact same interior in both. My exact HOU interior with the leather trim and cloth seats in available in SLE, LT, and LTZ.
