Yup I feel your pain. A road that opened late last year shows I'm driving off road when I use it now. I just use the iPhone map through Apple car play. Although I see you are having trouble with that to.

2015 Silverado with a May 4, 2015 build date here...my nav has taken me to the county prison when I entered Wal-Mart's address, to a housing plan when I was looking for Denny's, off an interstate just to be instructed to get right back on, etc. Bought the truck at a dealer 200 miles away. Took it to our local dealer to have the nav fixed but was told to contact the selling dealer or GM for a nav disc. Emailed the selling dealer, no response. Chatted online today with GM Customer Service for an hour and was told sorry, the servicing dealer said you have to go to the selling dealer (even though the work order says "Customer can contact GM or selling dealer for nav disc"). No wonder so many people think GM Customer Service is useless! And what a convenient run-around by all three of them. So now I have a $55K truck that I specifically bought because it had navigation and have to instead use a GPS because you can't trust the navigation. And GM's answer is spend $160 of my own money for a nav disc update even though the truck is under warranty. What a joke.

But wait there is more!

GM literally buys their map data from Google, so does Garmin and Ford and you name it. However as smart as Google is they only give them 'only what is needed' and not all their intricate mapping data including all the POIs other users submit.

Has anyone seen any GM or Garmin cars actively mapping roads in the last decade? No? There is a reason for this ... it is just cheaper to buy googles and resell it.

The answer to your troubles:

Go ahead and test this:

Look up 'Avatar Grove' this is a remote location on Vancouver Island off a dirt road on the very edge of the west coast. Bet your $2000 nav system with paid updates cannot find it. Google finds it immediately will give accurate directions and travel times, account for ferries and more. If you download the offline map you seriously do not even use connectivity as all it uses is GPS satellites. Not to mention live traffic updates and the most POI's of any mapping system. I was just up in that remote area around Port Renfrew for a few days and had 0 cell service or even WiFi the entire time but my phone works fast and accurate. When I tried using the OnStar turn by turn app map even find Port Renfrew the town itself before leaving it could not locate it, google brought me to the cabin door and to several remove sight seeing locations within no fuss no muss and never once had to ask a local for directions.

Factory NAV is obsolete, expect it to go the way of the Dodo in a few short years.
