battery not charging and battery light

Hello All,

 

2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD 6.0 AT 4x4

 

after experiencing the random REP mode and doing some scanner diaognosis we decided that the alternator and battery should be replaced.

 

after replacing them everything seemed fine for the first 30 mins. then the battery light and "battery not charging" would flash on for a second or 2 then go away. It does this randomly.

 

any ideas?

is the belt clean and tight? connectors/wiring between the battery, frame and alternator are good?

Over the last few years I have had several bad alternators right out of the box.

Where did the alternator and battery come from? Is it Chinese junk or OEM?

everything seemed fine when I replaced them. going to re do connections this morning.

alternator came from NAPA, battery from Wal-Mart

Over the last few years I have had several bad alternators right out of the box.

If the battery and alternator check out fine then you need to check all the main wires for corrosion, tight connections and any possible rubbing issues where a wire may be shorting or getting hot or drawing an above normal load.
