I have a 1996 Chevy Suburban 4 wheel drive. 5.7L 350 V8. My oil pan needs replaced and past experience with a transmission pan tells me I need to check about torque setting for the oil pan bolts for the new one. Are there torque settings I need to follow? If so what are they? Thanks guys I appreciate it.

If you use a Fel-Pro gasket, if I remember right, I believe it comes with full instructions and torque specs.

I've never used a torque wrench on an oil pan, but, the main thing is, the all need to be equally tight, but not so much that you squeeze the gasket out the sides.

With these newer vehicles - even the '96 5.7 - I probably would use a torque wrench, since GM created many more ways to fail on that install. For example, if you remove the timing cover on these, you have to do the pan gasket with it. Things are always too simple with that company - they've got to engineer a cluster**** every time.
