6.2L 8 spd 3.23 or 5.3 8 spd NHT?

I want to know what people think about the 6.2L 8spd 3.23 ratio versus the 5.3 NHT(3.73) for a bit of towing capabilities. I'm willing to change my 14 5.3L 3.42 ratio with the 6 speed transmission and I'm just not sure if the 6.2L 3.23 8 spd would give me more towing power or if I should go with the 5.3 NHT? There is also the 6.2 NHT that I may consider but I use it to tow 10 days a year only.

Thanks

6.2 all the way

NHT is the icing on the cake

I've owned 5.3 w/3.73, 6.2 w/3.23 and now a new 6.2 NHT 3.42 just plain love it

I went 6.2l NHT, and I have no complaints. Pulls better than the 3.23, and runs cooler doing it (we tested two trucks that had each rear end ratio.) It seems to be a little quicker on acceleration, and I get great mileage. If I didn't tow so much my average would be 20mpg instead of 17mpg.

I think the 3.23 should be fine. Remember you'll be going from the 6 speed transmission to the 8 speed, which should make up the difference in rear end gearing.

The 3.23 8 speed would be comparable to the 3.42 6 speed.

I'd get the 6.2 3.42 8 speed....

Lots of people are getting 21+ mpg with that combo( I don't see the 3.23 doing any better) and now you have the right power combination for the 10 times a year.

Plus you'll like the better visibility tow mirrors for the trailer....

6.2 3.42 in my 2014 was awesome. it was flat out fast and quick. the 6.2 3.23 in my 2016 takes a little more finesse to get going at the same clip, but still quick. the 6.2 will easily make up for the gearing difference just because of it's power. having owned 3 5.3's before and now 6.2's, there is no comparison, 6.2 all the way. dream truck would be the 2016, 2017 6.2, 6 speed with the 3.73.

In spring, I'm going to be putting in 4:11s in my 17 6.2l all terrain. With the 8 speed, it will be a heck of a lot of fun and still get decent mileag.

I don't think it is an option with the 8 speed. maybe with the max tow package, but I really don't like the looks of the tow mirrors.

Does anyone have a experience with how much parts and labor is to change our gearing and a reflash is needed ?

If you are at all mechanically inclined I'd just do it myself. I've put gears in a truck once before, it was a 4-5 hour job and really wasn't that bad, just time consuming to set the lash right.

Gotcha,

Yes, 3.42 are on the max tow package which gives you the mirrors. Different coolers, rear end etc....

But I didn't figure that bekill ( who asked the original question)cared which mirrors since he was talking about the 5.3 with Max tow as a possible option compared to the 6.2 ....
