Backward Technology- 2016 Silverado LT Z71

This is my eight GM truck. Every one previous was always better than the last in making my life easier.

Here are my frustrations:

1. 6 speed transmission- cannot decide what gear to be in.

2. Alarm goes off when using the key to unlock vehicle.

3. Must hold radio button in a few seconds to turn off radio.

4. Cannot remove blue clock face that glares in your face without going through a five step menu each time.

5. Power windows do what they want.

6. Large odd shaped holes under the top bedrails-- what good is a tonneau cover?

7. Large gaps at tailgate sides.

8. Cups don't fit cupholder.

9. Constantly getting a warning message after backing up.

10. Side view reduced because of rear grab handle.

11. 4 wheel drive--- who goes from 4 wheel low to 4 wheel high and stops in between the shift?

 

Been to dealer 4 times with no fixes.

 

Standard answer:

"Operating to intended design."

Am I crazy or was the technology in my 2006 Silverado actually more practical and user friendly?

I would at the least like to have the choice of selecting what I want or don't want to use.

Been trying to get throught to the GM bureaucracy for answers. Useless.

I think this truck was designed by 10 year olds.

I'm very happy with mine.... Transmissions these days are designed to learn your driving patterns, it should get better as time goes by. My buddy drives like hes 105 and when I've driven his truck (same powertrain as mine) it shifts totally different.

Why are you using a key to unlock your truck?

 

Why do you need to turn off the radio, I've had a K2 truck for about 45k miles, only turned it off once just out of curiosity...

 

What do you mean by a blue clock?

 

Push the power window button down, press it down again to stop it.

 

I am not sure why there is such a large gap in between the gate and the bed sides but, with a tail gate seal kit it keeps reasonably dry.

 

 

 

Tonneau keeps my bed dry, holes are there as a hand hold for the bed step

 

What cups are you using? All the ones I try fit in there....

 

The grab handle isn't the problem, it's the huge B pillar but, that B pillar is so large for improved performance in a side impact crash hence why the trucks get such a good crash test rating.

 

Guess you shoulda struck with the old 2006....?

Sounds suspiciously like buyers remorse...... Go drive a 17 Denali Ultimate it sounds like you have GMC tastes and a Chevy budget. No way you will ever be satisfied with this truck. Do you have a large amount of disposable income? If so a real quick and easy quick fix, you can get this done today. If you need help picking out a color just post back and we will pick out exactly what you need. Just make sure you have plenty of cash..................

Having owned both and paid the same for both trucks the myth that comparably optioned GMC trucks cost more than Chevy's is just that, a myth. I actually got more for my dollar on the GMC in some ways....... I do agree sounds like the OP has some buyers remorse and possibly just hasn't gotten used to the different operation of his truck, sounds like me when I get a new cell phone I can't figure out.....

I wondered the same thing about #11. Any truck I have ever owned/driven you had to put the truck in N or be at a complete stop to come in and out of 4Low in both stick operated and push button operated 4wd's. This is a 1 time poster so who knows, the guy (or kid) probably don't even own a truck. We get people like this on a motorcycle forum I am on.

He's saying he has to come to a complete stop to shift from 4low to 4high. I can't think of any vehicle where that is not the case. You can't shift to 4low on the fly. In any Truck.

Yes, that does suck. After about 6 months it gets a little better after the learning process has some miles under it.

Why use the key when you have a button to press? Much easier. But, you are right, can't see why the key made for the vehicle would set off alarm.

And it takes one simple press to mute it. Very simple.

I'm not sure about this one... maybe someone else knows?

They work great. Auto down if you press button all the way down. Take some time to figure out how it works. I think it's great.

6. Large odd shaped holes under the top bedrails-- what good is a tonneau cover?

Those holes allow for installation of bed racks and other accessories. It does not open up into the bed so water won't get in through those. My step dads '77 Chevy has these. Nothing new.

7. Large gaps at tailgate sides.

Yeah that sucks. My tonneau cover came with thick foam pads that I placed there to film the gaps and keep dust out.

8. Cups don't fit cupholder.

Yeah I agree I think they could have made these large enough to hold a 32oz bottle. But again, nothing new. They do fit most cups.

9. Constantly getting a warning message after backing up.

I just click ok to clear those. But honestly these should be able to turn off permanently. Unfortunately I don't think you can.

I'm not following. The outside handle?

Ok here is where I'm most confused. You are saying you've had 8 GM vehicles. This should be nothing new. In every 4wd vehicle I have owned you have to stop to go into 4lo or from 4lo back to 4hi. This is the case with my brothers 2005 2500 and my dad's 2004 1500.
