Voice pass through?

I have question maybe someone could help me with. I'm looking to get a new phone and just wondering what vehicle voice pass through is. Looked in my owners manual and its not real clear. Only thing it really said was it will allow you to use cell phone commands with your steering wheel voice command button. Anyone ever use this or know how? Thanks.

I think you're talking about the bluetooth feature on the trucks. You can link your phone to the truck and push the steering wheel control and listen for a tone and then ask it to call or text some one. There is also a voice icon on the 8" display and if you push that you can give the command to your phone. I have an iphone right now but when i had android it would even read the incoming text on the truck. With iphone you can also use Siri to do things like make calls, text or look up an address and the Siri voice will come over the truck speakers.

The voice pass thru is the ability to long press the voice button to activate Google Voice or Apple Siri depending on your phone.

So can you text someone by using this feature? Like talk to text thru the blue tooth and send it without using phone? My truck will read a text but I can't reply unless I'm stopped in park. I guess what I'm getting at can you talk and send a text with steering wheel control?

yes....at least with Android you can (what I got)...

You can with iPhone as well. Works with my iPhone 6 and my new iPhone 7 Plus. I use it all the time. Basically it just brings Siri to the in truck speaker phone. Not all Siri functions work though, if you ask it to Google Search something, it says can not do that while driving.

Well I got it all working and figured out. I have had my truck for a little over a year and had no idea you could text message from the steering wheel voice command button. This works great,and I thought you had to have apple car play or android auto to to this. Thanks for the info guys!
