LED Lights for AMP Steps

Yours looks good though. I went with a similar product as you at first but I didn't like that I could see the actual LED's from 10 or 20 feet back. I bet your factory steps prevent yours from showing. I bet you don't any trouble finding that thing in a dark parking lot lol

I see mine about 10 feet or so back. Does not bother me a whole lot though. The functionality and looks outway the drawback of seeing them.

Am I missing something?? They illuminate as soon as they drop and turn off when they retract. So if its tapped into the dome light but the steps are up, then it does you no good because the light is blocked

They would still come on if the dome light is on or door is open but the door has to be open for the steps to retract down and the lights to come on. Once you get in your truck and close the door, the steps will go up and when the dome light fades off so will the leds outside. I think your overthinking it. Lol.

 

If you're in the truck with the steps up and leds on, you're not using them for anything anyways. The lights from the amp step circuit would be pretty similar.

Thanks for getting back on topic lol. The "COB" lights are sold by many different sellers, but they all look the same. I have the same ones, and they keep going out on me.

How long have you been using them? They do seem extremely cheap (and they are extremely cheap) but so far mine have been fine going on 4 or 5 months.

I have a lifted truck also and I think the amp lighting that came with the steps are bleh. I want a strip that's hidden. And willing to pay for quality that will

I'm not aware of a good quality product yet but hopefully someone will chime in with a good solution. Mine is lifted as well so they were more visible but only when the steps were down.

I agree with the others - if you have AMP steps just use the wires from them. All you do is connect 2 wires at each light, stick the lights to the underneath of the rockers, and you are done!

Which lights did you use? I hate the purple AMP lights but the ones I linked to are supposed to be "super bright". I don't really want something that bright, I just want something that is not purple.

I'm not sure which ones I got but your best best is to choose one that's listed as, "natural white" or "pure white" and stay away from "cool white." If you don't want something super bright go for 3030 or 3050 lights that are waterproof. They should be less bright or you can wire in a permanent pwm dimmer which is cheap for desired light output :)

    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?. 
    • He is not saying that an SAE *W20 will have more viscosity than a *W40 due to MORE VII polymers. He is saying that although multiple *W40 may post in the PDS the same or similar 100 C and 150 C viscosities that the blenders choice of modifier TYPE and AMOUNT to get his chosen base to grade will not give identical real world viscosities in shear and at temperature.     • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. I usually set the parking brake (habit) when on flat ground for typical driving.    When backed down on the launch ramp to launch the boat and I place gear selector into Park, the parking brake activates automatically. My second nature is to set parking brake manually and noticed I was turing the parking brake off.  The parking brake appears to be setting itself automatically.   I looked all over my owner's manual and only found references to being on an incline and manually setting parking brake, or at times parking brake will be auto engaged, but nothing specific to my situation.    When is the parking brake automatically engaged?  Under what specific circumstances?  Can the auto set parameters be changed?     I like the auto set feature.  It would be nice if always engaged when shifted into Park and released when shifted out of Park (like my wifes 2025 RAV4).   Thanks!

Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
