Painting SLT headlight housing question

Question for those who have painted their headlight housings: I've noticed that most people who have the SLT headlights with the LEDs are not painting the LED portion of the light. I'm thinking about either tinting the lenses that go over the LEDs or painting the LED reflectors. Has anyone done either of these options? Wondering how it will effect the overall light output of the LEDs.

I am going to be baking the headlights and taking them apart to paint the chrome inside the headlight housing. I have a black Sierra allterrain so I want to get the inside of the lights as black as possible. My concern is the upper and lower parts of the lights where the LEDs are. These have a clear lense and then a chrome reflector housing for the LEDs. Wondering what it would do to the LEDs light output if I painted the chrome reflector housing. Would it be better to just tint the lense? Anyone have any thoughts?

IMO it will reduce light output.

I hope you are going to scuff up the surface before you paint so the paint adheres. :happysad:

I've heard the chrome in headlights is a pain to paint. Should use oven cleaner to completely strip the chrome first. Clean, scuff, adhesion promoter and then paint. No cheap shit either.

I will prep the chrome well before painting, not worried about that. Just unsure how much the LEDs actually use the chrome reflector? It looks like they don't point out, but rather up, and then use the reflector to reflect the light to the front of the truck
