New Tires-275/60r20

Need to get new tires for my truck. I'll be doing a 1.5" level and I think I'll go with a 275/60r20. Sadly, I drive almost exclusively on the highway due to my job, I've literally driven down a dirt road one time for about 1/4 mile. My question is what's my best option; looking at Falken wildpeak at3w, Goodyear trailrunner at, Dick Cepek trail country or BFG all terrain ko2. I think the BFG would be overkill but it sure would look great. Any opinions would be great!

I just bought the Falken Wildpeak ATW3 and so far it's a very nice tire in a 275/60/20. For a A/T tire it's road manners are great. I have been pushing it lately on the on and off ramps when dry and it just grips the pavement like a street tire. I will find a empty parking lot to test the wet grip so I'm comfortable with how it handles the wet pavement. It has the "snow flake " rating so I'm Waiting for the snow here in Michigan because this tire is supposed to really shine on the nasty white stuff. It's really quiet on the road surprised as the tread is very aggressive. Plus you can get a standard load in the size you want but it's rated to carry quite a bit more then the stock tires.

If you think the BFG KO2 looks great, then I suggest buying them. I doubt you would notice a better ride from your other choices. I personally prefer the more uniform tread pattern of a HT tire for ride quality and looks, An AT tire which I have given serious consideration to is the Goodyear Adventure. The sidewalls look a little "busy" but otherwise a tire with good reviews.

Have you seen any MPG loss with the Falkens? I was wondering about that because they have a fairly aggressive tread pattern.

Pick up the latest (Jan 17) Consumer Reports magazine on new cars. It has a good section at the back about tires. Also, Costco sells BFG and their prices are reasonable. Their install price and follow-up service is hard to beat. (I have often found that stores offering great deals on tires have higher install costs.) When you factor in the expenses associated with switching tires (and overall satisfaction) the extra cost for a premium tire is a good value IMO.

I will probably buy tires online and have them shipped to me instead of going through a tire place. I can buy almost any tire online for $100-150 cheaper than in store and get them put on for $80-100 and get free rotations and balancing. I am suddenly really interested in the Dick Cepeks, anybody have them or have info?

I run the KO2s and love them. Do a bit more off roading than you, but they have been great on the highways and road trips. Always nice to know you can do a little off roading if it's ever needed.

Have you noticed any MPG difference? My dad put them on his '12 5.3 RCSB and lost about 2mpg highway

Well if you're not adjusting the speedometer you can add 3.4% to that. I'm in the mid to upper 15's most of the time (not adjusting for the 3.4%) but I have a camper shell, mini lift, and removed part of the air dam. All of that has a negative impact. I'm measuring my milage on fully.com. I only use the truck computer as a relative gauge when I'm driving.

I can understand the difference with not adjusting the speedo but he went with stock size so it shouldn't have been a problem. I normally wouldn't be so concerned with fuel mileage but since the truck is a highway warrior for now I have to be mindful of it.

I just double checked with him, he actually has the XLT AS. Extremely similar tire from what I can tell, I was very surprised with the MPG loss. I apologize for the confusion...oops
