slj2008 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 I sprayed mine to match using a kit from eBay and Duplicolor primer/adhesion promoter... looks good
scott19677 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Not afraid of a little overspray are you? Lol That is one pro masking job.
Marv88 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 looks good Thanks! Not afraid of a little overspray are you? Lol That is one pro masking job. Lol and thanks! (in the pics you can also see one of the moving blankets I had covering the hood as well as the rest of the truck just in case!)
JoJoSilverado Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 The other day I saw a white Silverado on the highway with his rear bowtie painted a gloss black, but he also painted the surrounding chrome too. It made the bowtie "pop" and look bigger (in my opinion). I wonder if he perhaps just took a large slat of gloss black vinyl and covered the entire emblem. Either way, it looked pretty snazzy to me on the back of the white truck.
51 stovebolt Posted January 13, 2017 Author Posted January 13, 2017 finally got all the badges off, I only have the front bowtie on the grill want to go "red" I think ill try the vinyl first then paint later. the above eBay job looks awesome. how much was the kit " I]l also try and paint the wheel center cap bowties "red" also, but ill check and see if the spare center caps from my car will fit first they have the cross flag red centers. on a side note the rear bowtie on the tailgate was a booger !!!! it took a tractor to pull that thing off !!!

Did you have to sand it down ???
Marv88 Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 looks good. Did you have to sand it down ??? Thanks and no sanding as I wanted to keep the texture. I just cleaned everything well with mineral spirits and sprayed the primer/adhesion promoter first which will allow the paint to stick to darn near anything including chrome.
51 stovebolt Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 Man that's a great job on the painting of the wheels centers and the grill bowtie, I think that's my direction. Now the next thing is the rear tailgate latch. I've seen the replies that the e-bay ones are the best ones because of the (smooth) texture. I want to paint them same as the color of the truck. (Chevy should come up with smaller latch/concealed) dodge did a great job on concealment. will any one work as long as it has the camera location ??

Thanks and I ordered the smooth tailgate latch with the camera hole from eBay as well but I'm waiting for warmer weather to spray it.
lawn boy Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 I vinyl wrapped mine but it didn't turn out well. I was impatient and didn't use a hairdryer. I'm gonna have to redo mine. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

brians09 Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Thr Chevy bowtie looks a lot easier to cut out than the GMC with all the curves! I got a little carried away with the razor on some areas and have red showing on the edge, I'll redo it one of these days... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
sk Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 GM also sells billet emblems in both black or mirror. They run about $112 a pair (not bad for billet). Go to Chevymall.com and search the Silverado accessories.
