Samsung S5 Wireless Charging

I've got an S5 (model SM-G900V & i9600 case) that does not have wireless charging built in.

I'd like to use the wireless charger in the console lid so I've been researching wireless charging receivers that connect inside your S5 next to the battery. Even though the receivers I've checked out (Ebay & Amazon) say they're Wireless QI Standard Receivers some reviews state that they don't work on the GM center console chargers, even though GM says the wireless console works with QI charging accessories.

Before I get one of these, does anyone have any real life experience adding one of these to an S5 and have it work on the wireless console charger?

Here's an example of one on Amazon:

I have the factory s5 wireless charging back I think. I can let it go for pretty much cost of shipping.

Well I can't find it. But I believe it was Qi. I gave my brother the charger, and I have no idea where he back for the phone went

I have the s7, and I've used the wireless charger on the console. The charger is not to great... to use it, the phone has to be placed perfectly to begin charging. So if I hit a bump it would lose the connection. And that was when I had no case on my phone, now that I have a case it won't charge. Even when it is charging it is a very slow charge. I found others complaining about how bad the wireless charger is, and they also said it is just a 1amp charger.

Unless you have another wireless charger, I wouldn't bother using the one in the console.

I agree. I have an S6 and have the same issue as Patrick. Charging is pretty slow and mine heats up quite a bit as well. I don't think it's worth the trouble to make your phone do wireless charging just for the truck charger, IMO. I plug in the USB cable if I need a quicker charge now.

I have an S5 and use the internal receiver linked below. Works fine for me. Detects the charging pad pretty quick. Charge rate is about 1% per minute. It does increase the thickness of the phone and bulges the back cover. There isn't any extra room inside, so I think any of the internal receivers will do this on an S5. Cover still goes on, though I'm not sure it is waterproof any longer.

The charge amperage is a lot lower with wireless. A normal Samsung charger is wall charger is 5v 2.4 amp. USB from the truck and most aftermarket radios is 5v 1 amp. Wireless is 5v with something like .33-.75 amp depending on who makes it and if it isn't positioned perfectly, you won't see the full rating

unless you are willing to buy one of the new Samsung fast charge wireless pads and take it apart to put it into the console lid (I don't recommend as the Samsung one uses a fan to cool the charger down when in use) then I would go another route. Samsung makes an adaptive fast charge cigarette lighter charger now. That is what I am using now.

I did this and added my own charger to the armrest of my 14 using someone's guide on here. It works just fine. Yes, it's slower than plugging in, but all wireless charging is slower than plugging in. I had at the time, a Note 3 and it worked great. I've since gotten a Note 5 with built-in wireless charging and it also works great. Slow, but fast enough that I can turn on my navigation with screen on all the time, and stream music simultaneously, and the phone either charges or never drops below the percentage it was at when I started. The card I bought looked similar to what you linked to from amazon. I say go for it. Worst case scenario is you're out the money for the card. Small risk.

To stream music, don't you have to plug the phone into the truck with usb?

It can! Just connect Bluetooth, then press the media button, once you do that you can use your phone to play music.
