Adding second battery and isolator - It didn't work

This is a pretty easy task I thought, one I have done before. I had this same setup in my ford van. I disconnected the cable from the alternator to the main battery and ran a new cable from the alternator to the isolator and a cable from each leg of the isolator to the corresponding battery. But for whatever reason, it didn't charge my main battery. The reader on the console tells me to have my charging system checked. What gives?

Update: With the isolator installed, I was only getting .6 volts from the alternator. I rewired it back to factory and now all the stock stuff works. None of my accessories (drive cameras and strobe lights) work because I wired them all to an accessory fuse panel fed from the accessory battery.

Why doesn't the alternator work when it's hooked up to an isolator?

I have never ran an isolator. I have 2 batteries in my 07 and 2016 cc. I'm about to do the same in my regular cab. Pull the isolator and just run to the other battery
