Blown rancho shock

Everything I found on the internet states that leakage is not a good thing, as the shock will not perform as intended unless it has the appropriate level of oil within. I'd make sure that it was captured in the service ticket that the leakage was normal so it is documented for future issues.

There's a TSB from GM on it stating it's normal and not to replace them. Total crock of shit. I bet it also explains the back of my truck sitting lower and my low beams dazzling everyone lately.

Good info to know. I have to go in for an oil change soon and need to get some recalls fixed. I am going to look at my shocks. I'll start off nice and say I know about the TSB, but that I also know when shocks fail that it could end up causing serious injury if something were to happen. I'll push pretty hard, but within reason. I don't know anyone in the service department at my dealer, but I do know a salesman so maybe that will help. Probably not.

I wonder if my leaking shock has anything to do with my intermittent vibration

Just picked it up from the dealer. They were very upfront with me about the tsb and the chargeback they could receive if GM were to inspect the part. Encouraged me to inspect it periodically and if it met the tsb requirements to bring it right back. The tone of the conversation was positive and I appreciated their honesty. Probably the first service tech and manager that haven't been deceitful to me.

I replaced both OEM Rancho shocks on my Sierra about 2 years ago. I was getting a clunking noise and narrowed it down to one of the shocks. After removing the factory shock, there was about an inch of play when when tried to compress it. Basically it would compress real easy then hit resistance after traveling about an inch. This slack in the shock travel it was caused the noise. Replaced with Bilstein 4600 series. I think they are a better shock overall. Plan to replace the fronts someday too.

It's pretty easy to remove the rear shocks. Might be worth doing to get a better look and see how it feels when compressing it.

Absolutely recockulous, now they even say a leaking shock is " operating as normal"

When will it ever stop. "Operating as normal"...BS who do they think they're talking to, how do they get away with this shit. Even a monkey knows that a shock leaking fluid is not normal operation.

I did not even try to go back to dealer, not worth the effort. I found some Gabriel ultras at around 20 bucks a piece.

Took about ten minutes to change out both rear shocks just about as easy as any I have ever seen.
