Blown rancho shock

I saw this tonight and it looks leaking/blown to me. Just a quick second opinion from you gents.

 

Possible to have the dealer replace under warranty or is this considered a wear item?

My guess would be yes. Mine were in SAD shape when I removed.

If they do cover it under warranty, insist they replace both rear shocks even if only the one is blown. Shocks should always be replaced in pairs.

I was going to go fox as soon as I received my tax refund. But If the dealer will replace these for free I'd rather not have my truck be sitting on its ass for 2 months

See my thread on this matter! My truck has 20k an was wallowing and porpoising. 3 of the 4 Ranchos on mine were bad. 2 leaking and the third you could work with your hands and it made shiwishing noises. I hardly had any rebound.

 

The most off-roading I do is taking the sammich maker to work when it snows.

Dealer just replaced my rear shocks under warranty, looked just like yours with oil all over it. I too had 21k miles, so apparently these shocks aren't meant to last very long.. Getting fox shocks soon!

It's at the dealer now. Of course I have the service manager that starts grumbling that leaking is normal. We'll see when I go to pick it up later

Mine started leaking new the end of my warranty with 48k on them. It was considered a wear item and they wouldn't do much for me. If it's withing the first year, wear and tear items are covered but after that, they told me they're not covered and it's deal discretion. I could have maybe fought a little harder for them to replace them but I've be waiting to upgrade my rears to match my 5100s in the front.

Just got it back. No dice. Said it's normal leakage and that it's not sitting any lower in the back

Everything I found on the internet states that leakage is not a good thing, as the shock will not perform as intended unless it has the appropriate level of oil within. I'd make sure that it was captured in the service ticket that the leakage was normal so it is documented for future issues.

That's a line of BS if that's what they told you. The truck "sitting lower in the back" is not relevant in this case since the leaf springs dictate ride height in the rear, not the shocks.
