Probably same type of stuff that BG uses.....Which is why GM probably increased the oil capacity to 8qts all due to the DI engine fouling out the Oil with contamination sooner than they would have wanted.....I use BG and it does work! Lucas probably would too?

No need to put anything in the oil. Today's oils have come a long way and protect very well. No need to ad a chemical to an already great lubricant.

It is my opinion that the sump went up to 8qt to help with the possible fuel dilution that the DI engines can produce. It has been more noticeable on the UOA's of vehicles with DI. The worst manufacture with super high fuel dilution is the Skyactive from Mazda.

Back in the day prior to the DI engines all you needed was good fuel and change the oil 5k. I never was believer in the crankcase can of magic either. Now it's hard not to ignore that changing oil at 3-4-5k is doing "Nothing" to stop the carbon/coking oil dilution spark plug fouling, ring sticking nonsense. I have seen DI engine one after another all been well taken care of coming to it's knees.

Actually, I think the "AFM" gets fouled up to easily and 0W-20 is why it's recommend using it like Hydraulic fluid. Which is fine but then it seems the ones dumping oil at 3-4K are seemingly doing the wrong thing and dumping the oil at it's most volatile/organic phase and slowly gelling their screens for "AFM" and poof 60K 80K they all run like dog shit? Not FERD dog shit but just the usual more than excessive throttle response piss poor power and mpg's.

I don't know anymore I am a guinea pig with the DI engine? Hell it's even louder than years past engines...........

Why would anyone want to put Lucas Oil Snot in their engine. It has been analyzed by many folks and shown to be nothing but an oil viscosity thickener. The equivalent of a 150w base oil with no beneficial additives of any kind. By adding it to your engine oil volume, you are diluting the beneficial additives that a good motor oil needs to protect the engine. Many folks think of only synthetic, blend, or conventional, but overlook that up to 20% of any motor oil is additive package of detergents, anti friction modifiers, extreme pressure modifiers, crankcase acid protection, oxidation protection, nitration protection from fuel dilution, and other stuff to keep particulates from bonding to form larger particulates and keeping that stuff in suspension so the filter can remove it.

If you want a higher viscosity oil, then buy one! Worried about fuel dilution then go with a XXw30 oil instead of XXw20. Don't be fooled by one of those goofy hand crank things that are prevalent on many parts store counters. They are not an internal combustion engine.

I've seen too many oil analysis done on Lucas products and my opinion is they are snake oil salesmen. I wonder what it's like to sit in a boardroom and talk about the insane profits they make selling what they know is junk.

It's probably nothing different than any other boardroom....It's all marketing anyway and when somebody else is paying your salary/stock options/bonuses etc. I am sure they have no problem discussing about why their product is BS......Would you?

I am all about freedom and capitalism. But I disagree with making money selling products that are simply bad. I couldn't sleep well at night. I remember when Lucas began to get big 20+ years ago. Remember them at local drags. Now they are big time from selling to the unsuspecting buyer. Caveat emptor

    • This is a really late reply but I just found this thread. They won't sell the hinges. I've gone 7 rounds with them. Their solution is to buy a new cover. I'm about to buy a new cover and it won't be a Bakflip. It also won't be from realtruck.com.
    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
