Ventshades

Okay, did a search and found very little info, so here goes. I want a set of ventshades for my ext cab silvy. Basically comes down to a few questions/requests:

1. How does everybody like'em? (Noisy? Cheap? Do they fall off? Etc)

2. Which is better - tape or "in-channel" installation? I think I prefer the tape as I am afraid of window interference with the "in-channel" type. Input?

3. You can comment that they are ugly all you want, but I am purchasing for the functional value - not beauty. I always drive with my window down (drowns out the rattles) and want to keep the rain out at the same time.

4. Brands/Stores???

I have had several sets on previous trucks and they worked fine. I have had both stick-on and in-channel.

 

1...... I liked the ones I had (Ventshade). They weren't noisy at all. I did have a pair of the stick-on's start to fall off- see # 2

 

2...... The only thing I didn't like about the stick-on's was the eventually started to become un-stuck. Talk about a PITA getting that glue off your paint w/o scratching or dulling it! The in-channel worked fine and did not interfere w/ window operation.

 

3...... They are functional. They keep the rain out when you're driving in the rain.

 

4...... I think Ventshade is the most prominent name that comes to my mind.

There a lot of aftermarket accessories stores around here (Baton Rouge, LA)

but most of the major parts houses have them(Auto Zone, Pep Boys, etc.). Heck, the stealer prob sells them too if you want to pay that much for em! Try Stylin Concepts They may have em cheap!

 

I'd say Ventshade in-channel. Just my .02. Hope this helps

Go with ventshade stick on they work good and look good had them on my truck since new over a year ago with no problems at all.

I have the "Auto Ventshade" on my truck. They are the stickon ones and have been on there for 2 years with no problems. I think the trick is to make sure there is no wax on the paint and to thoroughly clean the mounting surface with the alcohol swab (which is included).

 

I personally wouldn't buy the ones for the excab trucks because I don't like the way the rear window ones flare out from the body of the truck. I would buy the ones for the reg cab, and not put anything over the rear quarter windows. (My $0.02)

I've used the tape on vent visors on my old 93 blazer and the in channel on my 03 sierra. I prefer the in channel, work the same as the tape on but are sleeker and blend into the truck and are easy to remove. They come in either a set of 2 or 4 for the ext. cab. I just bought the set of 2 cause, I too didn't care for the way the back 2 look on the truck.

The brand on my truck now is : Qwik- snap Ventvisor by Auto Ventshade(2 piece set)

I installed Weathernet's "Weatherflectors" which are an in-channel installation.

They are a bit pricey but fit perfectly and one advantage of these over the 3m tape version is that you don't have to eyeball or line them up. Perfect fit every time!

 

I think I installed these about four months ago and haven't had problems with them. They snug up against the glass but certainly don't get in the way. I love them. I leave them cracked about an inch when the truck is parked at work in the hot sun and rain doesn't come in during any sudden thunder shower.

Thanks for all the replies, gents. At lunch today, I spied an ext cab with the rears on crooked!! Looked very bad. I had not thought about getting only the front two, but it really makes sense!! It looks like my concern about the in-channel flavor is not a concern at all and I do like the "look" better. Thanks for all the tips (and links) guys, now I just need to figure out which brand.

 

Lrymal, those look great. They blend very nicely and are probably the frontrunner right now. Nice ride!

I have the stick on type on my truck, not sure which brand but I think its Ventshade. Its whatever Wal-Mart and Advance sales. Dont worry about the stick on's coming off, if properly installed they should last a Looooong time. My dad has the same brand on his truck and they have been stuck on there since '91.

I currently have the Ventshade window deflectors on my new 03. They went on without a problem. Keeps out the rain very well ( I like to drive with the window cracked).

 

If you clean the area very good where they are supposed to stick, they don't fall off. I put a set of the Ventshades on my other car over 3 years ago, and they are still on.

I bought my weatherflectors over a year ago and love them. They survived the severe New England winter and many car washes. The best part about them is no tape needed to hold them. I have another set on order for my van.

I put the stick on ones just over the windows not the extended cab section.

Have them on there for 3.5 yrs with no problem,

LUND also makes a window ventshade as well. Can't say if they are any good or not but they do snap into the window channel.

We have them front and rear on our ext. cab. They are on perfectly straight in relation to the opening but somehow they do look crooked. On our older body style ext. cab the look straight.

I put the inchannel version on the front windows of my excab. I like them a lot better than the tape on kind. Summit Racing has them only $5 more than the tape on and still cheaper than local dealers want for the tape on. If you want to clean them or your windows really good it takes about 5 seconds to remove them. BTW Lund and Auto Ventshade are owned by the same company.

I installed the inchannel on my extended cab on the front. Didn't get the back side window ones. They went in easy and can come out easy if you want to really detail your truck. No window rubbing problems at all.

 

Nice tight fit. As for price not sure got them as a Christmas present in 01. I did find out that Stylin Concepts has them and the price is reasonable IMO.
