Just yesterday I installed the the DDM HID Canbus kit (35W) at the recommendation from the guys at their store. Install was pretty straight forward, though I had to remove the air box to get to the passenger side light. This morning when I got in to head to work I noticed that the CEL had turned on. I checked to make sure that MAF sensor was plugged in which it was. I did not install a relay harness as their sales guy told me I should not need it. Seems strange that the HID's could be setting off the CEL but stranger things have happened. Has anyone else ever had an issue like this? If so what did you do to resolve it?

I'm willing to bet you turned your key on to test the HIDs once they were installed. Chances are you left the maf sensor unplugged and that triggered the cel on now. Just go get it cleared at Autozone and you should be good to go. It seems to be a common problem. Let us know if that helps.

The headlights come on? The 14-15 Silverados use the headlight as a DRL so you need a capacitor. If it was the MAF and everything is working disregard.

Yea, the kit I got has a combo of a capacitor and error code eliminators built in. But wasn't able to go to auto zone last night. This morning though the CEL turned off after about 5 minutes of driving.

I purchased a ddm 35w kit and installed it on my 2015 hd. I keep getting a CEL when first starting it up cold. The error code is doesn't have a definition on my scanner.

I installed the plug n play 'error code eliminators'. Do I need capacitors as well? I bought them just in case but didn't think they were needed.

I reset the code again (2nd time) so I'll wait for it to pop up again and take it to autozone. I have a hunch about it popping up during the elevated idle after remote start. Is there any difference disconnecting the negative cables and resetting the codes with a reader?

Had the CEL come on again for a third time. Looks like the truck is throwing a p21dd code, 'reducatant heater a current too low". From what I've read this is the def heater, failure is common on 2013's, haven't seen ANYTHING on 2015's.

Any idea's? CEL came on for the first time the morning after the install so I'm fairly certain the hid's are causing it.

2015 duramax, ddm 5000k 35w hid's. I have both lamps grounded to the driver side battery, power is run to driver side battery (secondary )as well. Wiring goes headlamp female --> error code eliminator --> dual harness --> ballast --> bulb.

Run the relay harness... All of the problems will go away... Went through this for a month with 5 or 6 different kits.. Finally went with Morimoto & harness from TRS..

I think autocorrect got you. Assuming you're saying 'return the relay harness.'

Did you have the same engine code? Could I just swap relays maybe? I just find it odd I haven't found any posts on this issue.

NO, use the harness.. Ill put a link to the harness I used.. I started with LED (About 4 different sets), then 2 sets of "Off Brand" HID's, finally just ended up going with the Morimoto HID's.. MUCH better output.. I had the same light come on, but when it did it would shut the lights off.. IT ALL has to do with the DRL & the voltage dropping too low.. The relay harness takes care of it all.. It doesn't matter whether you are running LED or HID, just use it.. I wired mine directly too the battery, so no issues with grounding.. After installing everything I didn't want my HID's cycling on overtime I started the truck so I bought the harness from Gen5, to disable the DRL all together.. Hope it helps!

*** If you can return that DDM kit, I would go with the one mentioned above ***

OP - I would return that DDM kit & go with the Morimoto kit from TRS... Comes with everything you need & YES, you do need the relay wiring harness.. ALL ABOUT THE VOLTAGE DROPPING TOO LOW..

P21DD - Hey guys, I have a 2015 that I had 2 computer updates done per GM sent me a (recall?) notice that this update was needed. Coincidently about 2 weeks later my CEL comes on. Had it checked at a local shop and it was a P21dd. He cleared it for me and then 2 days later it came on again. This time I stopped into a GM dealer and they wanted to charge me $120 just to read it again cause the warranty only goes to 50,000 miles for emissions. I told them what it was and of course they will not do anything until they read it. I drove off a little upset for the time being since 2 years ago I had to replace the DEF heater in my 2011..

Now I am on vacation and pondering what to do and if I can fix myself. I have not replaced or messed with my headlights at all. Any thoughts?

    • I'm not sure if this should be a new topic, let me know if it's out of place. This my first post. Thanks 85077522 - AC Delco GM Genuine Parts Brake Master Cylinders. Anyone else had to replace this brake master cylinder yet. I didn't do any brake work, it looks like new parts and I've had the truck for about 4k miles, 119k total miles.  When it started to throw codes I did the calibrations with a bidirectional scanner and got the codes to clear but they came back so I did the routine; base bleed, automated bleed and final base bleed. All that with Bosch ES16-32N fluid (please look it up). That seemed to fix it but 100ish miles later it failed again so I ran the same process but with a pressure bleeder this time and got the same results, fixed for 100ish miles. The original fluid looked bad and I thought I got most of it out, it could've been the wrong fluid. The codes; P25A2, C05B0-00, C2A1B. I can get them to clear but not for long. The C05B0 indicates a leak in the front circuit (which is bone dry) so I'm thinking of doing the bleed process on that front again today and I don't know if that's taboo to just do the front but at this point it seems like it's worth the try anyway. The new master cylinder/module unit is supposed to get here today. But now I'm pretty much convinced this install is over my head. I've called several shops and some mobile guys that I know but this thing is like radio active material, scary wise. I did get 2 local shops say they should be able to do it, one says he has the SPS2 programing capability. And with the battery disconnected is there supposed to be pedal resistance, mine is to the floor, then if I pump it I can get some resistance. I had a panic stop prior to this issue which may have contributed from what I read. And on the first attempt to bleed and hydraulic test the scanner listed things to look for and one was any gaps between the pad and rotors which I did notice on the RF corner and I removed the outer pad (where the gap was) cleaned it and the hardware and didn't see a gap after that but will re-check it. I read that if pushing the caliper pistons back then you're supposed to open the bleeder so as to not push fluid backwards into the abs module or it will damage it. If that's true then that's also a possibility from the previous owner having the brakes changed before I got it. I'm using an XTool ip500 scanner. Any suggestions, questions and comments welcome.
    • Next Friday will be my 6 week point from my right knee replacement.  The surgeon says it will be fine if I choose to drive after this checkup.  I know I could drive now but best to do as my surgeon (and my wife) tell me.  Richard compared being 62 to 72.  I remember when I was in my early 60's I was experiencing slow but regular decline in my mobility.  Thanks to good medical support,  i continued to fight the speed and spread of this decline. During my 60's I worked on non-surgical methods and just when I turned 70, my orthopedic surgeon recommended joint replacements.  In a little over a year, I had one shoulder and both knees replaced.  This hasn't been a terribly fun experience, but worth the discomfort as my future mobility health trajectory has reversed.  It is a treat to now be watching my mobility. balance and confidence steadily improve!
