Ugh, $750? I am about to get my first registration bill on this truck. Actually need to pay that soon. My '07 was grandfathered in at the $60, so I have a rude awakening.

Your plate is also the wrong color . . .

:D:D:D

I wouldn't worry too much, the truck was maybe half of that. I also register a 2007 BMW Z4 Coupe and Motorcycle that in included in that figure.

Just picked up a '17 2500HD, and truck alone is $511/year for mine here in Iowa, no personalized plates.

This is what I got from the DMV when I inquired about the fee schedule:

Paying 600$ already in Kommiefornia. Now pay even more for plates that are a different color is insane.

OUCH!!! $600??? Surely, you exaggerate, or you got robbed. Mine was $530, almost a year ago, expected to be very close to or just under $500 this year. Be glad that you didn't bring it in from out of state. Friend was charged almost $1,000 to register his '13 Ram from Utah, reg fee BS + "SALES TAX," because sales tax in UT is lower than CA. A bunch of the "out of state" types need to band together and SUE CA for charging sales tax on something that was bought OUT OF STATE!!!! Trucks are charged more for registration, because "they can go commercial anytime." I so want to go back to AZ or NM. NM charged strictly by the weight of the vehicle, 5,350 lbs = $53.50/yr, or so it seemed, and they didn't charge me sales tax when I brought my '91 Nissan King Cab into NM from CA.

My plate and registration fees aren't too bad here in Wisconsin. Pretty sure mine is $84/year. I ordered some non-custom LE Memorial plates for $15/year. So $99 a year total. It's only an extra 15/year for custom plates on top of this.

Looking at the DMV site, I must only be registered to 6000gvwr. It jumps to 106/year for up to 8000.

Interesting... looking back I was charged $420 for the truck registration this year. My truck has similar MSRP but weighs less since it is only a half ton. Sadly my last truck (2008 Titan) was down to $126 a year registration when I traded it in last year!

Sales tax isn't really a correct term for what that tax is. It is actually a use tax. States charge the tax based on where the goods will be used (think buying anything online). Generally states are not that particular about it, especially if you have previously paid tax on it already, but then you have California... it doesn't really surprise me. I am sure they don't refund you any tax if you paid a higher tax rate than they charge. Pretty ridiculous how that state is run sometimes.

My Oklahoma regular plate is $95 for the first few years then goes down some the older the vehicle gets. My personalized plate is $22/year on top of the regular plate. Compared to some of the prices that I've seen from around the country, I'm getting a real bargain! I gonna have to quit bitching at tag time :) .

My NH vanity is 40 a year. Registration was pro rated for only 9 months last year so I paid 750. This year was 800. Next year should drop significantly

Here's mine. In Iowa my registration total is around $750 and the plates are only $5 a year additional ($50 the first year)

I saw you about a year ago in Kansas City, laughed when I saw your plate so I took a pic to show the wife [emoji23] a69df662c16c399b8f3cf2ecfcabf473.jpg

You should see CT and it's property tax of vehicles. I have a 2014 and I still pay something like 600 this year. It could have been more. When I first bought my truck it was something around 900 dollars in property tax.

In Massachusetts, the cities and towns collect excise tax each year. Three weeks after buying my new truck, I got a bill from the city for $525. I suspect next years bill in February will be around the same. Mass registration fees are fair. $60 for 2 years. Vanity or specialty plates are $100 every 2 years. $40 of which goes to the charity the plate is for. Then there's the $35 annual safety/emissions inspection.

Too funny. My brother used to live in those apartments, and I visited him quite a bit. Glad you enjoyed the plate as much as I do :D

edit: that was right after I got my truck... still has the red GMC!
