Cruise control problem

Recommended Posts

While driving my Silverado this last weekend my cruise control quite working. I was pulling a light pop-up camper through Kentucky (no real steep hills) and heard a "snap" and the cruise control quit working. The light on the dash showed that the cruise was still working, but of course it wasn't. The "snap" sounded like it came from the vacinity of the fuse panel on the drivers side of the dash. I checked fuses in that panel and in the one under the hood and found no blown fuses. I only checked the ones that were associated with the cruise control. All of my lights still function the way they should, and I can discern no difference other than the cruise not working.

Anyone have any suggestions? The truck is an '02 1500 Silverado Z71.

If it helps, its burgandy in color... :sigh:

It turned out that the problem was a broken cable. The cable that ran to the accellerator snapped.

Doesn't it state in the manual that you shouldn't use cruise control while doing any towing? Good thing it was an easy fix!

Yeh, they don't recommend using cruise control when towing but it sure wouldn't have anything to do with the cable to the throttle snapping. I think the consideration is that the driver isn't too aware of what's happening with the throttle under cruise control and for other safety reasons.

He's only pulling a light pop-up anyway. Should cause any trouble to the cruise trying to maintain speed.

I really doubt that my little pop up (the camper, guys...) caused much strain on the truck. I wasn't going up big inclines, just the hills between Louisville KY and Bowling Green, KY. The camper is a light weight, anyway.

Never heard of the cable snapping before, but then again I never heard of an openly gay Episcopalian Bishop before, either.
