GPS Quit Working

2015 Silverado 1500, 50k miles...Red light came on my Onstar and my dash compass started by giving me a CAL code, but within a couple days compass went blank. Dealership has it now and just notified me that their code reader says it’s the module that operates things like the compass, blondestar, etc. ($600-$700+ repair).

Although my 5 year/100k powertrain warranty is still in effect, the 3 year/36k bits and pieces and everything else warranty that would have covered this is sadly done. They originally thought antenna leak as well, but that was not the case on mine. Apparently the antenna issue is more prevalent on the color matched ones, and not the black fin style. 

I’ve got an escalated case in with GM, and am hoping that as a loyal Chevy owner through 30 years and 7 vehicles that they’ll do right by me. That being said, the Onstar folks were great... credited me the two months this has been inoperable and is offering me a better rate on my monthly service with them if GM will step up and get that module replaced for me. Fingers crossed.

2016 Suburban, 32,000 miles same GPS problem noted above. Super frustrated. Dealership wants to replace antenna for $400. Obviously, a known issue for GM - why aren't there issuing a recall/repair program?

Same issue with my 2017 Yukon. Josh mentioned that he disconnected the rear view mirror wire and then plug it back in and the gps worked. Does any one know which pluge that is? I have not found any water comming out of the antenna, but I live in the desert and it probably got there at a car wash and then dried out.

The antenna and GPS problem is common on GMC.  I have a 2015 Sierra 1500 Denali and the GPS (compass too) failed about a month ago.  The problem I had was a design flaw by GMC.  The weep hole was on the wrong side of the antenna.  It took mine about 5 y rs to fail.  Asked my dealer to look into it during an oil change and I was informed that the check would cost $130, which astonished me.  Through this website and other resources, I found out the likely problem and cure for free. My dealer should have known anyway and been able to identify for free.  Anyway, went to my favorite body shop and they ordered the new part and installed yesterday.  It is a plug and play item.  The new antenna took about 1 block to recalibrate and I am back to normal.  Part was about $130 and installation was $130 for a total of $260 and the weep hole is on the downslope where it belongs.  I did not want to dig into the headliner so paid a pro to do that, however, if you are confident you can repair on your own.  GMC should be replacing these when they fail.  I will not be returning to my dealer for service.

2014 terrain display turns off randomly and controls don’t work intermittently.  This has been happening now for over a month (maybe more).  Doesn’t seem to be related to shock from bumping or anything of the sort.  Navigation won’t even engage, rather stays on the “initializing” screen.  Very frustrating and would like to know what’s going on
