Towing and cargo weight opinions

Whats everyone's opinion on if towing a 24' enclosed trailer with 2000 lbs of snowmobiles for 2000 miles is it better to have the extra cargo of approx. 1000 lbs also in the trailer or in the truck box for mpg. I'm thinking throw it all in the trailer and leave the truck empty but also thinking that if the truck is heavier that the trailer won't be felt as much. Lets hear yours. Truck is a 2016 2500 Duramax.

My LML was an '11, and I know that it in dry conditions and with those loads, it wouldn't have mattered.

 

If you expect to be driving in the snow there MIGHT be a traction advantage having the extra weight on the rear axle. I guess it might also depend on whether the extra cargo needs to be protected from the weather and from prying eyes when you are stopped.

Might not hurt to have some of that weight in the back instead of the trailer, but as redwngr said wisely is there gear that could be stolen while traveling? Thats a good enough reason to lock it up inside and having the extra weight on rear axle another good idea to.

Good point on weight for traction if it gets snowy. I do have a soft tonneau cover to keep stuff dry. The dmax probaby isn't going to care where the weight is.
