5.3 made in...

How do you tell where the 5.3 is made - is it in the engine serial number? I know they are made in Tonawanda, NY, Ramos, Mexico, and St Catharine's, Ontario, Canada, but how do you tell which plant supplied the engine? Just curious.

Engine identification can also be made through use of the Engine Traceability label (2) on the rear of the left cylinder head, or the Engine Traceability label (3) on the engine block as shown.

Bottom row of number/letter combinations on that label. The first two identify plant ID and shift ID. If its not on the head, its on the lower right of the engine block right behind the AC compressor.

That is the RPO code for the plant that the truck was assembled in. That does not identify the engine source.

I thought I read on here somewhere that early builds had 6 speeds etc... Was curious since mine was built in Nov 2016 etc...

My guy is looking in salvage yards I guess for a used part. Didn't seem to think he would have any issues.

He was running behind etc... said it would be a while.

Its the first two digits on the bottom row of the sticker. I will try and grab a shot of one of the labels if I can.

Thanks 15HDriver. Identifying where the truck is made is easy - I was curious about where the engine was made. Not that it matters, but I am curious.

 

I will look for the code on the label on the engine (like you mentioned in post #2), but how do I decipher the code? Is there a list of the codes and their meaning somewhere.?
