Wouldn't you run lean only if the vent valve was stuck open?

No, the vent does nothing but seal the system and unseal the system. The purge valve is mounted up at the intake manifold and when opened, vacuum is allowed to flow through the system. If your valve is opening when it's not commanded to, the ECM sees this as purge on the system when it's not commanded to have it. Also, when it opens when it's not supposed to (faulty purge solenoid) this will cause fuel trim problems, if you had a scan tool, you would see higher than normal fuel trims for short and long term fuel trims. The normal for short and long term fuel trims is -10 to +10

The first two DTC's are oxygen sensor codes, these will exist because your fuel trims are off. The P0171 and P0174 will exist because of the P0496. Did you ever test the purge solenoid? When you do, also make sure the hose that comes off of it isn't damaged.
