2017 Silverado bed and cab alignment

I don't know about you but $52k is a lot of money. I do expect a truck that is straight.

By the way cute lil truck. ^^^

There's straight and straight as an arrow, and evidently it met the specs for release of a cheap ride. So $52K is a lot of money for a vehicle with all the features and ride of a '17 and percentage of disposable income?????? Not!

My dads first new vehicle a '60 Impala set him back $2K when gold was $35 an ounce. Now gold is running $1300 and ounce which would make that Chevy cost $75K in today's dollars and the only options a V8 and auto tranny and the only electronic technology in the damn thing was an AM radio with tubes. The reason we are able to buy vehicles so cheap compared to yesterday's standard and much more dependable compared to our parents is due to advances in technology and robotics. And the robot determined my 1/2" or so out met specs and they pump out 4000 vehicles a day where otherwise it would take a team of 4 workers spending 1/2 hour to get that last 1/4" of alignment and they would pump out 40 vehicles per hour which in today's dollars would result in a perfectly straight as an arrow $965K truck.

I for one am thankful for what it was when I bought it and don't expect a Bentley for Chevy prices. And I learned early on you don't bring a vehicle back for nonsense or the cure may be worse than the ill. One has to set their priorities straight rather than their bed alignment ...if you can't notice it from 10 feet away, it's not really there..........and my 1/2" misalignment of the bed is just peachy with me and so would 1" for that matter!

In the 45 years married I've gone through over 55 vehicles and other than my '65 Impala SS never loved a one of them (although my feelings at the time for the '65 may have been guided more by the hot chicks it attracted rather than it's 6 taillights)......dumped 51 of them so far including the '65.......but still on the first wife for 45 years. And as soon as the '19s come out the '16 is to getting kicked to the curb (or sooner if for some reason it pi$$es me off)

Who even bothers to notice or measure this $hit??? Bought my '16 with 5 miles on the odo and at over 6K it still rides just great and first thing I did was spend $10 bucks to put on a pinstripe. And just checked my bed and it is 1/2" off and I could care less.....doesn't affect the pinstripe or the bed or the way it rides or carries a load....even if it was 1" out I wouldn't take it to the dealer or anyone else to f--k with it.

Crease the metal and then Bondo and paint the bed???....See the consequences when you take it to a nitwit to correct a minor, insignificant repair! And you'll have more luck trying to get the Silvy to fly then to swap for a new one. Want close tolerances in bodywork, you bought the wrong ride, a Silverado instead of a Maserati. If the truck rides great and the bed is stable but 1/2" or so out.....my advice is to leave it alone and drive it. If the crease is inside the bed, go for a bedliner to mask the crease......if the crease is in the outside sheet metal take it to someone who knows what the hell they are doing.....might be an excellent candidate for the more expensive "dentless" repair system they use to remove small creases or dents from door strikes or hail damage..

And just look at how awful my truck and its pin striping looks with the bed 1/2" out, and it is going to stay that way!

I doubt he went around measuring body panels to find it, only after noticing the bed sticking out one side of the body, at that point I'd have it corrected too, how does he know it was only the bed alignment issue and not a frame alignment issue, and as tight as the tolerances are in the wind tunnel it can cause wind noises, Hell I don't trust dealers enough to say that it wasn't in a small accident that the dealer corrected before the sale, I worked at New car dealers for 15 years in the 90's and 2000's, I've seen it done, Even if the left side of my grill had a 1/2" gap between the fender on the left side and flush on the right it'd be right to suspect somethings out of alignment.

As for the bed crease? Well my 16 with only 1500 miles already has 5 or 10 creases or dents inside from using it as a pickup so I wouldn't be concerned with that.

Here's how I know my 1/2" bed alignment is irrelevant and it is not a frame or any other alignment issue......wait until there is a light rain on the road and drive straight ahead on the wet pavement......if you see one set of tracks with the rears exactly overlapping the fronts the frame is fine......any wider and it's crabbing because something is screwed up with the frame, wheel alignment or axle alignment.

And wind noise from a slight bed misalignment????? Any such noise would be minuscule when compared with the air turbulence noise created by the mirrors, tires, tailgate and all the whirling drive train crap disturbing airflow underneath the chassis while "quietly" driving your non-aerodynamic 2 ton brick down the road. That's one reason I got the Bose with the noise cancelling system.

Could be whole whole exercise in adjusting the bed may just have been a waste of time resulting in damage. All depends upon exactly how was it measured and was it first confirmed that both sides were misaligned? Only proper way to do it is to take a length of string at least three times as long as the truck, wrap it tightly all the way around the circumference of the truck, securing with masking tape at the same points at the far ends of the front and rear fenders so it is stretched (straight as an arrow) along the length of the truck and then measure the distance of the two points on each side of the truck where the string extends away from the surface of the cab or bed using a straight ruler.........any other way is useless because there are specs for bed width as well as cab width. Bed/cab misalignment as opposed to cumulative spec variance in the bed, cab body or both can only be confirmed if the distances exactly match on both sides, i.e. bed is 1/2" out on one side and the cab is exactly 1/2' out on the other. I had to check mine that way if for nothing else, just for laughs...and guess what? Mine shows 1/2" out on the passenger side and flush on the driver's side!!! So, I'm still gonna forgeddaboutit. Proved unless there was first a proper diagnosis, the cure was worse than the ill.

Dealership made things right. So a big thumbs up to Pinkerton Chevrolet in va. Highly recommend due to their customer service. Not many dealerships will ask "what do I have to do to make things right" and actually follow through.

No matter how you spin it, a bed thats sticking out 3/4" on one side compared to the other on a brand new vehicle is worth at least looking at, again I worked at dealers and seen them do shady things to cover up damage or repairs on new and used vehicles, If you trust dealers that much, kudos to you, but I don't.

Hahaha oh ya, the evil dealers are always up to no good. We end up doing so much crap for free for people and never get so much as a thanks. They just find something else to whine about.

No vehicle is perfect, you can find flaws on every single every made, what's different is lots on this forum expect $400k Rolls Royce quality from a 55k gm truck.

Can you post what right is? Very curious.

Honestly, i've been on this forum since I got my 2014 Silverado back in november 2013 and have yet to encounter a poster who expect their GMC/Chevy to be on par quality wise to a $400,000 rolls royce....all in all, we just want it to work as intended and not shake/vibrate (to those with shaky/vibrating vehicles). My 2014 and 2016 have been great, no vibrating, no shakiness.

if you work for a GM dealership, please stop trying to incite an argument, people come here to post problems with their trucks and the last shit they want to hear is crap from techs who work on others trucks, especially when they're at the mercy of GM and their fantastic quality control.

Just sayin'....Learn some customer service skills or simply stay out.

Lol, then sell your truck and get something else. You can't see how you have a choice, you don't have to be at the mercy of GM, you could be at the mercy of Ford or Dodge.

Our dealership does freaking everything for people for free. We bend over backwards for customers. Someone had a bad dealership experience and that's it, they are all crooks, quick to the forums to preach it to the gods!!! It's such a pile of shit. We will do anything for our customers and we have a very good reputation because of it.... The problem is the people that try and take advantage of it, which is a ton. They ruin it for everyone and reading the forums, you can clearly see who these people are because they get advice of others telling them to do exactly that.
