'14-'15 Sub install under front work bench? Anywhere but under

Recommended Posts

Is this possible?

Has anyone tried and succeeded or failed?

I have the 2WT double cab and already have a storage bin under my back seat. I heard that Alpine has this whole setup for converting from 2way to 3way speaker setup

Alpine SPT-31GM.

I have the basic tiny radio.

They have speaker adapter mounts for 8inch subs for the front doors, which I found to be really interesting. Some nice shallow mount subs would go nicely there.

I've read reviews that the Alpine SPT-31GM setup isn't that great but the adapter mounts got me thinking.

What do you guys think???

I use the whole storage bin because I put fishing rods in there plus a small carry beach fishing tackle bag and miscellaneous tools, jumper cables, etc. .

Sounds like it's time to get a tool box or a tonneau cover for the bed. I'm in the same debacle, running out of space in the cab.

I do have a tonneau cover for the bed but it's not a hard cover but a soft tri fold. I'm interested in getting a large tool box for 2 reasons.

1. I want to get a train horn kit, a nasty one, and install everything inside the tool box like I've seen on some setups online and have the horns mounted underneath the box. That way everything is protected unlike having everything mounted in the undercarriage where it could get damaged. I would want the horn kit that comes with the tire inflation hose as well.

2. With the remaining space (there will be a a trap door that would open up to where the horn kit would be, I can do that), I'll put the miscellaneous stuff that's taking up space under my rear seat.

I would not put any kind of sub in a door as the resonance will be a never ending battle andcwould need to be setup as an infinite baffle, Chances are you would never get what you are wanting out if doors. Even a good mid bass is hard to tune correctly in a door.

As far as shallow mount subs go you take a big loss in output going to shallow mount, but sometimes is the only option.

You will typically lose some output using a shallow sub yes, however if you have the right setup with the right equipment there will be little to no difference. My JL 12" shallow absolutely pounds in my double cab. It is my favorite setup I've have since the old days of having 2-12s or 4-12s pounding my eardrums to death in the back of my 87 300zx or 95 corvette. I highly recommend the JL Audio 12tw3 shallow sub. Then again for your application I guess that isn't likely. How about removing the center jump seat and having a custom box/bench seat? What are you willing to give up to gain the poundage you desire?

I've thought about removing the center jump seat but it would have to be something low. My girl likes to lean over to my side which was 50% of my reason for purchasing the bench. The other 50% is for when the motor ever dies, I'll swap in L92 (6.2L) that I have from a Escalade that I pulled from a junkyard to play with. Little by little I've added stuff to it. Might cut a hole and put a manual trans.... That would be fun.

The only way I would do a box in the jump seat spot is if I could have a custom box the exact size as the seat in there now with the folding console bolted to the box. But I went with a fiberglass/mdf box under the back seat behind the driver. It works for me.
