Mine wanders without a trailer on it.

Have you asked the dealer to look into the Digital Steering Assist TSBs? From what my brother & others here have experienced, I'd want that fixed before I tried towing a trailer.

I hear you on the wandering without a trailer. I feel like I'm constantly making tiny left / right course corrections. If I pretend like I'm about to hit a slalom course, and whip the wheel left and right, I feel like I'm not getting a crisp response. More like I'm driving in mud, and there is a delay in the steering response. It's subtle, so I haven't brought it up with the dealer yet, but as soon as I feel like it's bad enough that they'll know what I'm talking about after a two minute test drive, it's going in. 2016 Sierra 2500 crew cab, built in Flint.

GM trucks have never been known to have tight steering. FYI.

Mine had it from the start but about 900 miles started to get worse and just keeps getting worse. There is a serious design flaw in the 2017 and what I have read it's the 2016's too. My 2015 was a dream to drive.

What's tongue weight of your trailers and what brand are they? Also curious about the load, was it all static or were you hauling something viscous? My truck has done great since the first little hiccup I mentioned with the tractor. These new 3/4 tons like weight, and with the MFG push among all brands to be the "tow weight king" has at least in my eyes and for what I do exceeded the needs of most owners. Just an observation but trailer design hasn't really changed much but the light duty/medium duty truck segment has really grown in capability it.

I am going to throw this out there, what tires were on your 2015 vs the 2017. I have found both car and truck tires that did not want to track, kind of like a white water canoe on a lake, the wind and every ripple takes you all over the place.

My 17 has Goodyears and I am not a huge fan to start with.

X2

Sometimes wider tires will follow the 'ruts' in worn pavement too.

Just got back from my second towing trip. All was well the truck and trailer handled great - I still have not raised my hitch - got to find an impact driver to undo the bolts. In between the two towing trips I did a solo road trip and the truck handled great.

I hope you get your problem resolved soon.

My truck had goodyears on it and replaced them with michlens at 900 miles and still no change. It has a really funky problem that gm can't figure out what is causing it. It's been at 3 different dealerships 9 or 10 times and 2 engineers have looked at it also. It does it without a trailer too and when you put a trailer on it magnifies the problem.

Have your dealership's service dep't look up TSB PIT5501F! If you're having steering issues w/o a trailer hooked up, chances are the steering box is @ fault. If they won't, take the truck elsewhere. My bro' had no issues w/ getting the dealer to fix his steering defect.
