Exposed ground wire

So I was poking around under the truck, and came across this.

The ground cable was resting on the front driveshaft. Upon further inspection, it was exposed! Glad it was just a ground cable and the damn thing didn't light me up!

I tried to bend it out of the way with only a little success.

Anyway, luckily the part number sticker was right next to it. I looked it up and it's the auxiliary battery negative cable. It's $43.54 + $8.24 shipping on Amazon.

Wondering if the drivetrain warranty would cover it? Truck has 98K miles, but I don't know how long that wire has been rubbing. I'll be hitting up the dealer for answers, but wondering if y'all had any insight beforehand.

Drivetrain warranty won't touch it since it has nothing to do with the drivetrain (engine, transmission, etc)

I was thinking that would be the case... even though the drivetrain caused the wear on the cable, the cable isn't part of drivetrain.

Appears like a rodent has an appetite for your cable.

I sure hope not! But I'm quite positive it wasn't a rodent. The cable was resting directly on that driveshaft knuckle, which is what caught my attention in the first place. The picture was taken after I bent it up a bit to get it away from the driveshaft knuckle.

I feel like a goofball. It's actually resting on a steering knuckle. I guess I was more focused on the wire than where it was haha....

Anyway, dealership quoted me $100 and for a new cable. He also gave a different part number, as the part number on the cable provided no results. Possibly a redesign?

i thought most ground cables were uninsulated ... but i refuse to pop the hood on anything built after 72 so who knows? next you will be telling me i don't have a carburetor!

Heat shrink tubing repair. "Nuff said

Yeah, you're definitely right lol. I'll be keeping the old one for a backup, although some of the exposed wire was shredded a bit too. I doubt it makes much of a difference. I'm just a sucker for new, perfect stuff I suppose haha

But the bumper to bumper should.
