A/C Not Blowing cold.

Dropping my truck off tonight to the dealer but I got to looking last night and noticed a couple things that were odd, to me at least.

1. remote start wont work. Is this a safety measure when the AC is out?

2. neither fan will come on when the compressor is running. I know bad idea to turn it on, I was just looking for a second. There also is not a 15 amp fuse there they say "cool fan" or something like that should be.

3. While ac is running (not cooling) I now have a high pitched whining noise coming from the vents.

Also, Im sure this is all coincidence but my battery went dead on me on fathers day.

The remote start won't work when diagnostic codes are thrown.

It won't hurt to run your ac with the system leaked out because the compressor clutch won't engage anyway.

Hummm. Im starting to think I have something else going on here. The clutch does engage when the AC button is pushed. And last night I went to return my battery for a core refund to Autozone (I was in a bind and needed a battery to get home) and asked them to hook up their code reader He stated they can not if check engine light was not on. I figured a code had to be thrown if the fans wont kick on. Yes I checked all the fuses and they all seemed good.

Hey all..

I have contacted an attorney, still waiting on that. However, AG from Oregon has sent a complaint to GM and I contacted the federal DOJ for antitrust law violations. Everyone contact your state AG, and antitrust people here [email protected] GM raised prices on those parts and have a monopoly on them which is possibly a violation of antitrust laws. I'm 8 weeks waiting and I paid $347 for it already. 90's and humid in Oregon, but GM told me they are getting condensers to the "hotter" states first.

Has anyone tried a universal condenser? I was contemplating going that route. Getting a condenser and a separate trans cooler. There has to be a way with aftermarket parts to make a bulletproof fix without wasting time going the oem route since clearly GM has decided trucks don't matter anymore.

We ordered an aftermarket condenser off Amazon in desperation. $248, made by Pacific Best and it is most awesome. Cold instantly. The seller on Amazon was"cooler ng direct" had the part in about 4 days. The stock fluctuates from 2 to 0, just keep after it.

Not that I'm aware. As for the trans cooler, you could very easily just cut off the cooler you have now and keep it as is. You would need to fabricate a little something to hold it as it's not separately mounted, the condenser has the mounting tabs. But the trans lines are hard so my bet is that it would hang there just fine on its own. May rattle a little.

As for a universal condenser, I considered that myself. With a little research on size and come custom tubing for connections, you could probably pull it off without too much effort. But after seeing the improvements made by the aftermarket on the oe design, I'm feeling pretty good about these condensers. They appear to have the trouble spots eliminated.

I lucked up, for now (knocks on wood), and only needed one of the lines running to the condenser. Had it changed out last week under warranty. Hopefully this thing keep blowing cold till summer is over and then I can look into changing out the condenser on my own time.

anyone else have any luck getting this covered outside of their bumper to bumper. I have a 14 with about 55k on it and the AC just went out. just trying to prepare myself for a fight.

Well I just got to join the club too. 2015 GMC Sierra Denali 44k miles. its over 100 degrees here so I got to pay 1k to fix or deal with nothing to drive. This will be the last GM product I buy in my lifetime. Pure crap.

The AC in my 2018 Silverado started blowing hot air today.

Anyone know if these problems (condenser, bracket, etc.) have been rectified in my years model?

    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
    • Atlas, you kill me As aggravating as a project like this can be you have been unable to hide your fascination with learning and using that angst against this beast like a Ninjitsu Master. It amuses you, admit it now.      BTW, love your writing style. 😉
