A/C Not Blowing cold.

Years ago I started using a leak finding system that has Never failed me on a vehicle. I add about 2 ounces of good ole R22 and then use pure nitrogen to pressurize to around 200psi. I use a TIF ZR1 refrigerant leak detector to sniff out the leak. The leak detectors heated pentode sensor picks up the R22 much better than the R134A you can typically pinpoint the leak source within 5 minutes or less. If your town is pretty good size there is probably at least one good shop that really knows there stuff with auto AC and can pretty much fix any problem you have and stand behind their work. You got to find professionals to do your work and stop messing with the rookies (yes most dealerships are rookies too just part changers).

Update!

Got a call from my dealer this past Thursday saying they had the condenser parts in for my 2015 Silverado crew with 65,000 m. I couldn't believe it. I was told by multiple sources to expect up to 6 months and it only took about 2 weeks. I took it in right in that morning and they had it replaced in 2 hours. GM ended up charging me $330 deductible. Better then the $1250.00 I was quoted though this truck should never have had that problem after only 1 summer of use. So now it's going to be one of those things that I'm always wondering when it'll give out next. Though for now its case closed. Good luck everyone else.I hope your situation gets resolved as quickly as mine did. I was fully expecting to spend the entire summer in a sweltering haze. Cheers

Had my condenser replaced. All was well for a few days. Get in today 90 deg out, a.c. cranked to the max, hot air. Wtf? Pushed the a.c. button a few times, nothing. Turned the fan power off, then back on, finally the a.c. kicked on. So now this has me wondering....

I had made this adapter a month or so ago and vacuum tested the condenser and evaporator and they held. But I'm pressure testing now that the r134 leaked out again.

yes AC systems are funny like that you cannot put enough vacuum on them to really test it but if you push in 150 to 200 psi of nitrogen in there and even the tiniest leak will show its ugly face. Larger leaks will squeal like an air horn! Problem is a tank of nitrogen is fairly expensive plus you need a 2 wheel cart and then regulator flow gauge is real expensive. That is the problem with AC repair tools they cost a lot and are single purpose. You have to kind of plan on doing more than a just a "one off job" to make it worth investing in. I like it though and I use it regularly in my rental business, saves me a ton of money.

Fed up with the heat. Ordered an aftermarket direct fit condenser and new desiccant. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I figure the questionable quality afterket condenser couldn't possibly be worse than the known bad OEM.

Dang! I just got thru pressure testing the Evap and Condenser. Evap held pressure for 2 days without loss. Condenser was leaking at 15psi /10 mins.

Let me know how the fit and quality is with the aftermarket part.

Update:

Did a little research and found Spectra Premium is a Canadian company and ISO 9001 certified. http://www.spectrapremium.com/overview.html

Some feedback on the net suggests they are a quality aftermarket manufacturer. Spectra Premium warranties the condenser for 2 years/24,000 miles from installation.

I ordered a new Spectra Premium condenser from CARiD. $88 ...$103 to my house. "...what difference, at this point, does it make?"

Same here. Little warning, I've had THREE orders cancelled this week due to stock issues. I'm on my fourth order. We shall see!

Were any of them with CARiD for a Spectra?

So I was out of town in Michigan (65 degrees) so it was nice. Got back home started my truck had zero A/C....Black leather in Florida summer is not fun! I said screw it and got an after market condenser, BUT (my horror story begins) apparently now the transmission fluid goes through the condenser rather than the radiator and the condenser line is just clipped in with a coupling so about 5 miles into my drive from the mechanic...I could not shift gears and my check engine light went on...I was on a bridge and the line came out leaking tranny fluid all over the place! Filled it back up got the line back in nice and tight and went on my way....

Yes, the V8 auto trans trucks have a section added to the upper section which is a trans oil cooler. They are not joined in a way that one section can leak into the other. Those little spring retaining clips have a black plastic safety ring that prevents the clip from coming out. Make sure you slide them over the clip.

Did you get your AC working?

Yeah, I think my Mechanic didn't get the line in all the way...now it holds up fine..been a little under a day and I have driven at least 30 miles so I think its good...Shifts a little weird going into 3rd-4th but I think its the adaptation tranny or whatever the hell it is nowadays...but yes after market condenser worked...A/C blows cold.
