Engine programmer for 2017 gmc

Hey guys I am fairly new to the truck game and I am a little confused as to what can be done in reguards to programming a 2017 GMC 1500 Sierra with a 5.3 and a 6 speed transmission.

 

Did gm lock up the computers so they can not be adjusted or is that only for the 8 speed transmission.

 

My main reason to want to adjust is more along the lines of wanting better fuel economy as opposed to performance.

 

If It can be programmed what units are recommended and what kind of fuel savings would I be looking at say on the highway doing 120kph (75mph)

Don't waste your time on a programmer. Go custom/dyno tune. BlackBear Performance is highly recommended on the forums here.

You should be safe with the transmission not being locked so far only 8 speed and new 10 speed. The engine PCM is still a little tricky but EFI Live and HPTuners can be used. I suggest you leave that up to a professional tuner. I second blackbear unless you have a local shop that can do it in person. Look for corvette/camaro performance shops in your area.
