2017 Z71 grill modification?

I'd love to find chrome inserts for my 2017, mine we the gloss black . I'd even go with a chrome insert overlay but I don't think anyone is making them for a 2017, if someone takes the time to take apart there grill to remove the chrome. I'd be interested in buying them

That looks sharp, surprised it is not part of a factory package. Really brings out the details in the grill.

OP - did you paint this yourself?

I did, yes.  Sanded, primed, sanded then 3-4 coats of basecoat and about the same for clearcoat all from rattle cans I ordered from automotive touchup.com.  Be sure to have plenty of sandpaper-400, 800, & 1200 is what I use.  lightly scuff them to begin with, then prime, sand smooth, paint (sand if there are any mess-ups then base again), then plenty of clear.  I've painted many parts on my cars this way.  No-one but you will know it wasn't professionally done.

looks good. HOW hard is it to removed the slats ???

Not terribly hard.  I used flat blade screwdrivers to pry off the melted tabs along the back.

Looks really good! If you haven’t fully assembled it already, the finishing touch would be to follow up with a few light coats of clear for protection. In any case, nice work.

Oh I use plenty of clear, that's where all the shine comes in and also smooths it all out.

Totally agree!  It seems the auto makers are always just a tad behind the times on modifications.  I absolutely hate all the blacked out trim on vehicles these days and it has totally taken over now.  I appreciate the compliment, MOD on!

That's what I wanted on my last Silverado, chrome grill slats like the high country's.  You could very well paint them chrome if you're willing to put in the work but if you have the stock grill I'm not sure it'd be worth it though and would be much more work.  My grill is the high country with painted black slats/fins/whatever you want to call them.  It came on my LT Z71 Texas edition.  You may be able to find one like it online, I haven't checked.

I've been wanting to do this mod for some time. That silver grille is clean as hell. Looks like I have a weekend project

Let me know if you need any pointers or help.   It's not all that hard, just time consuming.  The painting always takes the most time.

When you pryed off the melted slats did they break? How did you reinstall them?

Most broke leaving enough of the tab to just stick out enough to hold it in place when reinstalling.   I used epoxy to reinstall them. It was a friggin mess, just plan it all out well ahead.

If you can get the tabs small enough to fit in their slots the “fins” will be touching the grill face enough where you can “super glue” the whole thing on in places spread out across them.  Just pre-fit and take your time.
