Which shocks for rear of Truck HD2500

Looking to smooth the ride out some and gain some control when towing. I get some bounce when towing but have decided to upgrade. Fox 2.0s or Bilstein 4600/5100's. stock suspension otherwise. I have read a ton of posts on this but not much about the fox's

I got Fox on my ATV and love them but thats not a good comparison. I put Bilsteins on my 1500 a few years ago and they did improve the ride and reduce bounce. Fox seem better made with alum body and better seals...

I put 5100s on my 2500hd, one of the best improvements in ride, only second to having the tires and TPMS set at 55psi.

This made me wonder if your trailer is a gooseneck. Could it be that you are getting a rebound bounce from the movement of the trailer against the hitch?

 

I was towing my gooseneck with my 2016 2500HD diesel and noticed a lot of bounce and the trailer felt like it was 'wandering' (although it isn't visually moving around).

 

After some investigation, I purchased a Cody Cushion which really eased the surge/bouncy feeling when towing.

It will work with most gooseneck setups as it has a variety of 'stubs' for various hitch manufacturers.

I put 5100's on my GMC 1500 and I put 4600's on my Chevy 2500 and B6 on my Audi. I love Bilsteins and in each case they have improved each car.

 

The 5100's and the 4600 provided the same improvement, not stiffer but more planted, less bounce, and more road control. On the Audi, the sports did firm it up a little and handling is better without jarring my teeth out.

Bilstein over Fox IMO.

Fox has larger capacity, more dampening, is tuneable, and is rebuidable.

 

 

I would replace all four shocks at the same time. Both Bilstein and Fox 2.0's will work great for your application.

Thanks for the feedback. The trailer is a 26' tow behind currently. I will be moving up to a 5ver next year. TT weighs about 6600 loaded so well within limits and I use a wdh. I did not know the fox's had more capacity. I do not off road much mainly DD and towing. I will drop the tire pressures some more and replace the rancheros soon.
