Hello all,

I'm currently in the market for a Silverado. We're looking to do some camping in the near future and wanted something to tow a pop-up to begin with but perhaps move into something a little larger.

My question is would a V6 4x2 be sufficient for towing a camper about 100 miles through mostly flat highways but possibly through the West Virginia or Smokey mountains?

I figured I should ask the experts here rather than a salesman. Personally I'd prefer a V8 4x4 but the cost can be somewhat prohibitive. If a V6 4x2 can safely and reasonably tow a decent camper, say 3500-5000 lbs, then I'd rather spend the money on upgraded interior features than a bigger engine. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

For durability and resale go V8.

Drive train is more important than interior features IMO. :happysad:

Hi, welcome to the site. Depending on your cab & box configuration, the 2wd V-6 can safely tow anywhere from 5500 to 6000 lbs. (Crew Cabs have the least towing capacity)

So yes, what you are describing would be fine.

You can pull a pop-up with a minivan or small SUV, so you will be fine with any Silverado.

But remember, if you really want to get into a larger travel trailer, you are going to be severely limited.
