I recently purchased a 2014 Chevy Silverado that was built in Canada I live in Memphis Tennessee I am trying to figure out what needs to be done to make the automatic headlights function actually work. My headlights automatically turn on and will not turn off unless the vehicle is in park what can be done to fix this

There is nothing wrong with your truck. The auto makers intentionally have the daytime running lights on all the time. Have you not noticed this on every other vehicle on the road?

Do you want to override this so you have no front lights on during the day?

Yes there is something wrong with it it needs to be fixed if you go buy a brand new truck today from GM you can use the headlight switch to turn on your headlights on and off if my truck is in drive I cannot turn just the parking lights on I want to be able to use the auto headlight function the way it supposed to my headlights do not need to be on all day every day

For instance if I'm backing into my driveway light at night I would like to be able to just have the parking lights on so my headlights do not blind the people who live across the street for me and during hunting season one pulling into my life and I would like to be able to turn them off and not have to have the headlights on

Look in your manual there is a way to disabled the auto headlight , mine were off when. I purchased my Yukon I am not sure about each year but on mine it's controlled with the dome light bypass button below my headlight switch, yours may be different, these vehicles have all kinds of adjustable features. That are in the owner's manual.

Also on mine they don't come in at night of the parking break is on and won't shut off once triggered unless the sun hits the sensor on the dash or I turn the vehicle off, I haven't touched my headlight switch ever since I activated the feature, in auto mode they will stay on untill like I said you shut it off or enough light hits the sensor thats probably on the dash.

I have done all that being that he came from Canada all those features or disabled where the headlights come on all times no matter what when in drive reverse neutral anything except for park once it's in park you can turn them on and off. I would like mine to just work as if I was to go buy a brand new one today from the dealership in Memphis

The owners manual states that it is controlled through the BCM but the local dealership here says they cannot do anything about that and don't know what to do

When I received my '07 from the dealer back then, the very first thing I did was to go about disabling the daytime running lights. I could not distinguish between DRL and the regular headlamps - seemed one in the same to me. I was annoyed by that as well.

I went into the underhood fuse block and removed a couple small relays if I remember right. Should be labeled DRL, or something similar. I'd bet GM changed that by '14 however ...

If you can get ahold of a wiring diagram, just remove any relays or fuses associated with DRL.

I am completely fine with the daytime running lights being on I want to be able to control it so at night when I back my trailer in I can just turn the parking lights on and not blind my neighbors

And as far as the 2014 model goes there is no fuses or relays that control the DRL all D headlights and lights are controlled by the BCM

Can't you just turn the headlight dial to your parking lights only setting when pulling into your drive? I thought that I have used mine that way a couple of times..... But perhaps I was already stopped.

Thats is the way they are supposed to work. Exactly but being truck is from Canada originally, that feature is disabled! In which the gm dealership said there was nothing wrong thats how canada trucks are but im not in canda. Im in memphis tn and want it to be like a normal dang us truck. Lol

Well I admit, I first thought you were smoking something. But I went and read my owners manual and sure enough: it says for vehicles first sold in canada, the DRL lights are always on when the vehicle is in gear, and can only be turned off in Park.

So you need to figure out what is different with the light controller in Canada and get a USA version. If your dealer won't help you, I don't know what else to try. I guess I'd email somebody at GM and ask for help.

I believe the dealer can swap your vehicle "country code" in the BCM to change that

You need to trick the BCM into thinking the truck is in park all the time. Either that, or a rewire of the system is in order.

I would study both the USA and Canadian verisons wiring diagrams for the headlights, and note the differences. Doesn't matter what magic box is controlling them - they can be tricked.
