6.2 liter in 2500 series

If I pushed it I could easily overheat it pulling a 7000 lb trailer.. yes, that's fully loaded. as it is now I can barely do 50 up any incline. 64 is about as fast as I can go on the flats. If I go faster than that I watch the temp gauge climb.

I've replaced 2 sets of shocks and oh yeah the transmission too.

I tow 9000# from NY to Fla twice yearly, temps at any speed are not an issue. Say a slight trans temp increase in the mountains of W. Virginia thats all.

11.5 mpg av. towing that weight is impressive as well.

Currently at 18,000mi and couldn't be happier with my '17

You can custom order the 2500s with a 8.1L

I do believe the main driver also for the 6.0L versus the 6.2L is light duty emissions certificatin versus medium duty emissions certifications. The 6.0L most likely still meets the medium requirements while the light duty requirements drove the 6.2L powertrain combo.

Just my 2 cents.

I would take the 6.0L if I was buying a 2500 gas truck without thinking twice, its a beast!

I would be very surprised if a 6.2 got significantly better MPG in the same truck as the 6.0. I wouldn't be surprised if the 6.2 blew in half doing some of the things I've seen the 6.0 do.

The 6.2 compression ratio is pretty high for continuous heavy work. High compression makes for good economy and peak power. Higher compression is made possible by direct injection. The 6.2 may not be able to work continuously at the higher end of the tow weights or just may not have been tested for that.

The 6.0 has very good heads and is a port injection engine. Justin (Black Bear) told me these engines really perk up with a tune. But you're gonna be running premium fuel if you do that. And you should discuss your towing with the tuner. I suspect the tune will have to be modest for towing.

I agree with you about the millage.. It probably wouldn't be a lot better than the 6.0 in the higher weight 2500. Plus the rolling resistance on a 2500 is higher with a studier parts, etc.

I do believe the 6.0 could have much better performance than it does but it's held back for durability. I've been saying for years now that GM needs a more powerful base engine for it's 2500 trucks. They just feel sluggish off the line. That's the primary reason I didn't get one instead of my 6.2 Max- tow. With my love of work I really should have a 2500 but I've had two with the 6.0 and for at least I want more power.
