Question to the guys with the 12909 already installed.... it looks like the only way to purchase it is center in and offset out.

After getting under my truck it looks like the stock muffler is offset in and center out. Am I missing something?

The 12909 is off set on one end and center on the other. The muffler ends up being angled a little to work out from the pics on here.

Muffler is fully reversible so works just fine.

Ah!!!! Okay, this makes way more sense now for the guys saying it was a straightforward install. You run a muffler backwards on Subaru Sti and your back pressure would be all jacked up. Didn't realize the 12909 is straight through design and not chambered

What are you guys paying for the muffler itself? Anyone find it for a better price than $125 shipped through amazon?

Don't want to get bent over on parts since I'm clearly going to on labor. Can't find a shop within 100 miles willing to do the install for less than $100. Just find it funny I could install a cat back myself but can't install a muffler. I need to learn to weld lol

Was able to get muffler for a bit less with a 20% Advance Auto coupon. Cost to cut off OE muffler and flapper valve and replace with Magnaflow was $40.

12909 here... Removed OEM muffler flapper and resonator. Sound in v4 is minimal any sound like light radio in cab and you would never know it was changed... Once rpms get over 2,000 start to hear slight low rumble and at WOT sounds like a 6.2L should sound. It reminds me of my 08 SD sound that came stock. 3.5 inch in and 3.5 inch all the way out to my dual tips. Also added an AFE momentum GT CAI and have improved mpg and sound. Happy with this setup. $100 to install.

I had my Magnaflow 12909 installed this morning. Found a shop to do it for $60 including a 3.5" to 3" adaptor needed to retain the flapper valve. It sounded good when the guy backed it out and drove it to the front of the shop.

However my first impressions are that it's really quiet in the cab. I compare it to my 2011 6.2 that I think had the best sounding stock exhaust I've ever heard on a truck. If course I improved that by swapping to a Flowmaster muffler and never looked back. However these k2's have a much quieter interior and I can hardly tell there's a different muffler on there.

It must sound better and louder from the outside because I've got a couple looks from people on the street. I have zero drone and zero AFM sound.. At least it isn't louder then stock since I could hear a slight sound difference when it was stock.

All in all if you want a tad deeper and tougher sound then this way is a winner. I just wish it was louder when I hit the gas hard. I'll be towing later today so we'll see how that sounds.

Update..At lunch I used a hitch Receiver pin to hold open the flapper valve. Its amazing the sound difference from just doing that it's much louder at take off, a little louder at idle but I haven't noticed any v4 chopper noise yet from it I guess we'll see how this goes. Dang this muffler has a deep tone!!

Thanks for the update! Definitely going to delete the flapper now. And I feel a little better about the $100 install quote now that I know I'm not the only one paying that much.

Closet place willing to do it for less than $100 is a place 2.5hrs away that'll do it for $60. Add in gas and it makes no sense to drive that far out of the way

Bump. From the dead....

Just had my 12909 installed. Deleted the valve but retained the resonator. My initial thoughts are it’s quieter than expected. I set out to find a system that wasn’t too obnoxious so i went into it knowing it wasn’t going to be like a Borla Atak but I guess I was hoping it would be slightly louder; especially at WOT. Can anyone comment if the exhaust gets a little louder with some miles on it? Or what I’m getting day 1 will be the same tone a year from now?

I just read so many reviews of guys saying it was slightly more aggressive at idle/cruising speeds and really wakes up at WOT. Guess I’m just confused

The only time I can really tell the Magnaflow is on there is when I remote start it. That or when I pin the flapper valve open. I've considered deleting the resonator but no one around here can deal with 3.5" pipe.

I expected it to sound like my 2011 6.2 with the Flowmaster. Not even close lol. I probably have 1000 miles on my Magnaflow and no change in sound. With the flapper open it sounds deep but after getting used to it I think I want something a little louder.

Ok the plus side I don't have any drone.

I don’t know if this makes me feel better or worse lol. I have my flapper completely deleted.... my next thought was cutting the resonator off and just running a small turn down at that location.

The exhaust shop that did the install said the resonator cuts sound by 10%. I wonder if that’s a generic phrase or if that’s accurate... if it’s accurate 10% louder than it currently is wont be much of a difference at all!

I just had my 12909 installed.  I wanted a step over stock, still fairly quiet inside, and only a slight rumble that doesn't wake my neighbors when I hit my remote start.  That is exactly what got!  I left the flapper and resonator in place, the shop wasn't a muffler shop, just a regular garage, but they were easily able to fab a 3.5-3" adapter for the flapper. Charged me $85 cash. I am extremely happy with the sound, though first impressions were actually quieter inside than I imagined.  This time of year doesn't lend itself well for window down impressions in Canada, and the roads are too slippery for any balls out blasts, but I can definitely tell its there when I roll on a bit.  I will wait for the weather to warm up, and I will try pinning the flapper open for comparisons, but extremely happy with the sound

GM went through a lot of trouble to insulate the cab from outside noise. At the same time getting good flow through the exhaust with out a lot of exhaust sound. That the reason they’re so many cats and mufflers. It’ll take some chopping to here it loud inside. I’m glad all the came about at the time I’m happy with quiet at 60.

    • Its no wonder you've gravitated to the oil types and brands you have in later years after trying certain brands and one being a specialty oil or at least very hard to come by up here and the other would have been a commonly found oil of the era and the vastly different outcomes as a result to using the vehicles in question the same distance for an OCI . It shows what marketing hype can do without actually having the product to back up the claims and that is no different now with the insane claims that are written on the side of a bottle of oil from some of the off the shelf oils.    What has surprised me and I was already finding this out before I bought my truck with the GDI engine, that this newer fancy technology that seemingly would suggest better fuel economy/emissions with this high pressure spray of fuel is not in reality kind at all to the engine or at least the oils life. Yet they insist on claiming long OCI with this technology just like they did with the port or similar type fuel injection systems when in reality its a step back in oil life to have a GDI system.    I think the mistake your making Grumpy is that your not sending your samples to Blackstone and getting the feel good glowing report that you can run it another 1000 or more miles and then send another sample where they say run it yet another 1000 miles and on and on it goes until your sending in something that looks a lot like road tar and then they may suggest you change your oil within the next 1000 miles 😆
    • I am guessing that engines of that design back then had a better ability to be abused and survive longer than a new design engine with the long timing chain and the overhead cams and phasers etc. But I would never guess that an engine could go that far and not fail spectacularly or at least die a slow death.
    • In the 80's 90's I'd run Honda's 7,500 miles between changes using Red Line HP 5W20 and do it for hundreds of thousands of miles with issues. Back in the day it was an SAE 20 with the HTHS of a SAE 30 and SN add load. It was also very polar. Oxidation VOA was over 120. Besides those motors were SPFI and lean burn tech. I could have likely run it longer but never did.    We had a Toyota bought new I ran on Pennzoil's latest and greatest synthetic of the day with "Penthane". A made up word for a very low dose of PAO. Tried 7,500 mile OCI's in that Group III/VI chemistry and the rings tapped out at 90K. Rocker box wasn't as bad as the one Punch put up but it wasn't good either. Also a SPFI motor.    I'm around 3,750 across the board on these GDI monsters and the oil it tapped out by then usually on TBN/TAN crossover and color. Red Line HP Euro.    The AMSOIL SS brochures tell you to follow the OEM values for the service class but that it can be run up to 25K if monitored. I can't imagine what motor could go that distance and not tap out. I've never owned one.    Yes, I know. Lot's of people do. I'm just not going to be one of them.
    • I knew a guy in the early 80's that bought a new Monte Carlo and ran it a 100,000 miles without ever changing the filter or the oil. Just kept adding. It looked like that inside.
    • Good evening. I was lucky enough to get passed down to me a 2007 GMC LBZ that was my great uncle's. While the underside and rockers are more or less gone I feel like with time I can restore it to working order since it only has 110,000 miles and he put nearly every option he could get without getting the new body style since he did not trust DEF. So far I have done everything I can think of but when I put the key into the ignition nothing happens. I put 2 brand new batteries in it. Cleaned the terminals. Check all the fuses and relays and they all pass with my multimeter. I know I'm missing something that I just cant think of. The only odd thing is the OBD2 port works which makes me think its not the mega fuse. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
