Lifted my Sierra today

I've owned my 2017 Sierra SLE Elevation for 7 months now.

The first thing I did to it was wheels/tires. I bought a set of Rockstar II's and Toyo Open Country AT2's. The tires are 285/55/20.

Soon after that I installed a front level lift and Air Lift 5000 air bags in the rear for when I'm towing and hauling heavy loads in the back.

Next I got 15% tint all around, except for the windshield.

At this point it looked good but I've wanted a real lift.

I pulled the trigger on a BDS 6" lift with the Fox DSC coilovers up front and the Fox 2.0's in the back. Also added to the rear was a BDS add-a-leaf.

All that I read about the BDS coilovers suspension riding better than stock is 100% true and I haven't yet played with the adjustable dampening.

Two things I don't like about it now is it has too much rear rake. Hopefully it's just because the add-a-leaf is new and it'll settle after some driving round with it.

I also realized I had a bit too much air in the airbags so I released some of the pressure and the rear went down maybe 0.5".

Secondly the 285/55/20 tires are way too small in diameter now. I know some of you saw the picture and laughed. Hey, it's only temporary until I get some 35x12.5x20 Toyo AT2's.

Stay tuned as I have a few more mods I want to do.

You could always get a smaller rear block to level it out

I was thinking that as an option but I'll wait a couple of weeks and see how much the spring settles before I do anything. I'll take a measurement of the fender heights tomorrow when it's light outside.

I hear a lot about those coilovers being much better than stock but I still find it hard to believe. Not calling you a lier but I think subconsciously we want to justify the money we spend on something after the fact. I'd love to ride in two identical trucks with the coilovers being the only difference.

If they are that amazing I may have to upgrade mine to them at some point. I've got the BDS kit now and I'm happy with it but it's def not as smooth as stock. Great for a lifted truck, but no bently.

No. It's true.

On my way to work there are two bumps in the road that as I drive over are somewhat harsh. With the coilovers going over those two bumps the front is like sitting in a luxury car however the rear is still stiff being a leaf spring.

The coilovers really absorb and dampen nasty bumps in the road.

And that's also because of the Fox 2.0 rears. If you upgrade to the 2.5 res w/ DSC controls in the rear you can tighten that up for towing or loosen it up for crazy bumps

Didn't realize there was another option for the rears. Interesting.

The BDS kit only has the Fox 2.0 as an option for the rear shocks.

I'm wondering if I went with the BDS leaf springs rather than the lift block would it be a better ride?

I've got the BDS leaf springs because I was worried about axle wrap. They are not the softest thing I've ridden in. I'm not sure if they are better or worse than the block. I'd assume worse in terms of comfort but better for towing. Again, I'm not sure, total guess here.

Good point, I'm assuming you lifted the rear more than 1.5"?

Fox's 2.5 rear DSCs are for 0-1.5" lift...but I bet King makes some for 4-7" lifts.

Just ordered some 35x12.5x20 Toyo Open Country AT2's. They should be in at the tire shop tomorrow.

I can't wait to have them installed even though it's only been one day since the lift was installed.

My next dilemma will be winter tires. Initially when I just had the front level lift I was planning to use the factory Elevation wheels and I had bought a brand new set of BF Goodrich KO2's (275/55/20) to run in the winter.

I'm wondering if I should just use that wheel/tire combo for the winter or sell the tires and buy bigger diameter tires for winter use.....

Sell those new KO2s, don't put any miles on them. Someone will be wanting those big time since they're stock size.
